Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Pound
Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At this time Lit Eyewear is a startup company. But previously before this business venture I operated an organic skin care manufacturing plant for about 12 years. I wore all the hats of the company from managing website design, customer service, marketing, shipping, receiving, label printing, USDA and FDA compliance rules and regulations, workflow operations, product photography, distributorship, wholesalers, retailers and exporting. It was a lot of fun because I was always learning something new.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes, it’s been a smooth road for me because I previously ran a skin care company. Basically, everything I learned from that business venture I am implementing into this business venture. One of the challenges for the skin care brand was to make skin care look fun on social media and in media ads. So with this new venture with Lit Eyewear I’m really looking forward to getting involved in making Lit Eyewear fun on social media and in media ads. Lit Eyewear sunglasses are designed for when you go surf boarding. So, surf videos and fun in the sun is what the ads promote. I believe that your most essential surf gear is your sunblock and sunglasses. You need to really protect your skin and your eyes. Another challenge is quality. Quality of the product is so important that it can be a challenge. I find myself always testing. Testing different wood finishes, testing product buoyancy, testing website and checkout, testing the packaging, shipping durability, consumer experience and consumer satisfaction. Testing is a vital part of the brand and for company operation’s but it challenges me in a good away. I enjoy the challenge because I believe it will make the brand stronger and give me more wisdom moving forward as the creator and designer.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lit Eyewear?
My brand Lit Eyewear offers sunglasses that are designed for surfboarding. While surfing the sun reflects of the water like a mirror. The glare is intense. As a child I sunburned my eyes. This eye condition is called, Photokeratitis. You can’t reverse the damage but if you wear sunglasses you can reduce or stop further damage. Once the doctor diagnosed my condition, she said I must wear sunglasses at all times while outside. I replied how do I do this while surf boarding. The doctor had no reply and no solution. So, I created my own solution, Lit Eyewear. I offer sunglasses that float this way if they are lost they are easy to be retrieved and not lost in the deep sea. Most sunglasses sink to the bottom. I love sustainability, so with this in mind I offer all my sunglasses with real bamboo wood frames. This sets my brand apart from many others. I love the idea of having sunglasses that are made from real wood. This reduces plastics in the environment and promotes a more natural lifestyle.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I’m a foodie, so what I love most about the city is the food. The variety of cultures of food and variety of ambience is amazing. You can surf and eat in Huntington Beach, California on Pacific Coast Highway and watch the waves, sunset over the ocean, enjoy the view of Catalina Island and then look inland and see the snow peak mountains of San Bernardino Mountains in the winter months. California has the most breathtaking sunsets because it goes down over the coastal waters. The weather is always great and the surf is safe because we don’t have any razor sharp reef to worry about at our local surf spots.
