Hi Mindy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello Everyone, if you take anything from reading my story I want you to know how valuable life’s lessons can be in creating who you are and to trust in your divine timing and the path that is aligned for you regardless of all the twists and turns it takes. Own your light and trust!
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Integrative Coach and Energy Healer. Throughout the 12+ years I have been in the field, the development of my business has shifted in many ways over time, from a more traditional mental health practice, to slowly building its way to a holistic practice, from adolescents to adults. Although something that was consistent throughout my career is I have always called in numerous clients who have experienced or are going through fertility treatments. It felt as though something in me continued to call them to my space. I noticed throughout my life I had this deep knowing inside, a soul connection to Women/Fertility/Pregnancy/ and Postpartum. I had sought it out in a few different ways seeking positions as a therapist in clinics who specialize in this area, in my friendships who had children and constantly being their angels of support in those beginning moments, and through my nannying jobs which often were women who had their children through fertility treatments. Needless to say this was a deep calling and I was never sure how I was meant to use it. Until I finally left Gather and Grow OC,my previous group practice and opened my business Mindy Kaya. Where I embarked on a deep spiritual expansion, one where I learned to reopen many gifts as a healer to guide and support this community of women and couples going through fertility, pregnancy and postpartum.
Through my time in my business I understood I could help connect couples, and women to the soul of their unborn children, clear the blocks that are preventing the family’s from pregnancy and ultimately help each individual raise their vibration to match the soul and purpose of the child coming in as well as the purpose of the family as a whole unit. I became aware of how to connect Mommas with their unborn children in utero that may be feeling disconnected, as well as guiding them and their partners to tap into their intuition, learning to use this as their guidance as parents. Ultimately preventing postpartum depression and anxiety with the exception of course of medical/hormonal imbalances that may be contributing factors to this. I also understood I can assist in womb healing which can be used for anyone but I use it more directly to help with fertility and to heal the womb and trauma that occured post labor. I also started utilizing more of my spiritual gifts to assist in reopening a soul connection with couples that truly is the greatest gift to witness, by guiding the couple in a meditation where I use energy healing and sound healing each partner is able to connect to their soul as well as the soul of the unit leaving behind any ego. Speaking their needs and hearing their partner from a space of love and compassion. Utilizing energy healing heals the overall unit allowing them to realign and elevate the connection that they have. I help each partner in redefining themselves and their relationship as new parents. Guiding them on how to stay centered, find peace within and navigate the stressors of being a first time parent. Through connecting them within, and guiding them to find their own internal soul answers, to trust and value who they are as a parent and redefine who they are individually and as a couple. As I grew more spiritually in my knowledge, I understood I needed to educate myself to ensure the full needs of each person that came to me could be met and held properly. I received trainings from PSI to assist me in understanding Maternal Mental Health, and have spoken with many experts such as Acupuncturist and Functional Medicine Dr, Chiropractors, Pelvic Floor Specialist to name a few and will continue to gain more knowledge and trainings to best assist the community in this area. Exciting Collaborations are currently being put into place with other business related to the field and of course I will continue to grow my spiritual space honoring my soul purpose in life to heal and guide others to their soul. To honor my light in this journey fearlessly, always going deep within myself continuously shedding, rebirthing, and expanding, always listening to the universe, my Angels and Guides.
My Path to Spirituality and becoming a Therapist:
I was very blessed to know at the young age of 14 I was going to be a mental health therapist. I embarked on a journey of self discovery through self help books and a sociology class in order to conquer my shy, introversion or what I call now my shell I hid in. I was hooked by that first class and began to take on as many psychology courses and continued to read books in the field to learn as much as I could. I understood at this point what I was meant to do and never looked back.I am very blessed to have found my soul purpose so young and never take this for granted how easy I understood my calling.
Discovering my Spirituality really began in Undergrad at Cal State Long Beach I had an incredible professor Mrs. Mubasheer who taught me how to redefine my connection with spirituality and God, as well as how to meditate. She helped guide me to see religion and spirituality is within and a relationship with God/ Universe is what I create with them. This created freedom for me and allowed me to explore more in my own connection within.
Due to this, meditating became a more regular thing and helped me find inner peace in a way that nothing else could offer me with the exception of my love of the ocean.
Financially I supported myself in undergrad and grad school by nannying full time and taking classes in between my normal work hours. After graduating undergrad I attended Grad School at National University in Costa Mesa where I studied Counseling Psychology to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Challenge:
I came across my first big challenge having graduated from Grad School. It was difficult to find a full time job in my field. Many places I applied to felt I didn’t have enough experience, since this would be my first career position. So I continued volunteering where I had my internship at Sunburst Youth Academy. This was a quasi military base for high risk adolescents where they lived on base and received education, life skills, counseling ect. Because I worked full time I could only volunteer 10 hrs a week of my time, so receiving my 3,000 Intern hours for my therapy license took significantly longer than I anticipated. Finally 2 years after Grad School, I was hired full time as a Mental Health Counselor at Childnet in Long Beach, a nonprofit for at-risk youth. I was a counselor going to children’s schools and homes providing tools and emotional support to youth. Many of my clients were high risk Suicidal, ADHD and Depression, anxiety or Behavioral issues. Working here opened my eyes to a lot of poverty, and in general how broken the system is in keeping our kids safe and creating equality in services. I learned a lot during my time at Childnet and received great training but I realized I was overworking myself and went through a burnout. I left not wanting to continue to be a therapist. I knew I wanted to help others but wanted to find a new route. This challenge is what woke me up to a much deeper path of spirituality and internal healing. I was rebirthing myself, and struggled feeling isolated, lost, issues with finances. Clearing my shadow self, the healing of those areas within myself that were hard to see, and acknowledge within.
My Spiritual Path:
While I was at Childnet I began to do a deep dive into my spirituality and incorporate guided meditations with my clients. I began to explore things like past life regression therapy, mantra chanting classes, ect. Which led me down a path of Kundalini yoga where I would say my spirituality opened up immensely. Kundalini is a type of yoga that connects you with your pranic energy and essentially breaks through old patterns through specific breaths, body movement and chanting. After my first class I felt so much emotional release and a euphoric high from it. I attended classes regularly over the course of 3 years. This led me to my first healer, where I truly began to shift my perspective from traditional mental health therapy to a more holistic approach.
My healing from traditional therapy felt like I would move a top layer over the course of several years in comparison to healing the root cause in months of receiving healing sessions. I was so passionate about spirituality and am grateful for this was what helped me out of my shadow work and began to lead me in the direction of what is now my business. I began meditating daily, I received a Masters level Reiki Training and healed many old wounds within myself. As I began to shift so quickly I felt I needed to incorporate this with my clients. I started a company known as Divine Souls Healing where I would travel to people’s homes providing Energy Healing. I grew enough in my practice where I was hired on by a gorgeous space in Long Beach called Go Inward. They offered Kundillini Yoga, Yoga classes as well as Acupuncture and Energy Healing. I thought I had finally made it, unfortunately I was not able to call in new clients there, despite my efforts of working events with the company, or meditating in the space to attract new clients or having group sessions. It seemed to be a struggle. Although people enjoyed my services, I wasn’t able to establish a full practice. I attempted over the course of 1 year to build Divine Souls Healing, but was never able to fully get it off the ground. I knew very little about business at the time and truly I needed to work under someone to establish more skillset, as well as understand myself and my path. Heal my own deeper beliefs around abundance, self worth and confidence in my gift.
I went back to nannying full time and continued aligning in my spirituality as well as upkeeping ethical and legal requirements for becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I was not willing to let all that schooling be wasted so I continued to pursue the appropriate steps to move forward and I understood I would eventually go back into therapy. I had one last step to becoming a Licensed Therapist, a 4 hour final exam. I took the test 3x’s before finally passing it on June 5th 2019. Which felt like a moment in my life of great accomplishment. This test was another beautiful healing lesson. I learned through this journey patience, trust in my own abilities and believing I am worthy.
Four years after leaving Childnet I felt a deep calling to provide therapy to others, it was no denying, this calling was from my soul. I began looking for jobs at group practices to join knowing I wanted to learn more about the business side and also needing some safety as I reintroduced myself into the therapy field. I was hired on by Gather and Grow OC in Fullerton, a place that was a perfect fit for me. They were spiritual, connected and welcomed me like a new family member. They were open to teaching me all about marketing strategies and were the perfect combination of holding my hand when I needed it, and letting me navigate through things. They focused on creating a safe space for couples, and individuals of the BIPOC and LGTBQIA+ community. I worked part time nannying while I built my caseload and by year 2 of being there I was able to end nannying permanently and was promoted to Supervisor, where I supervised Associate Clinicians and also carried my own caseload of clients. Throughout my time at Gather and Grow OC my spirituality grew immensely and I was incorporating more and more of this in my sessions. I added spiritual healing sessions to my services as a separate offering outside of my therapy sessions. I began to see how both can dance together in a space and this was where I found my foundation to the holistic approach.
While working there I met my incredible husband who saw me, who understood my dream was always to open my own practice and encouraged me to expand. I was comfortable at Gather and Grow OC. I had a family there and a safe place to work, but I was making myself very small and not trusting my spiritual calling by staying there. So I began to process and build what is now known as MindyKaya.com my business. It took me a full year to build the website, find a location, and ultimately heal any wounds I needed emotionally to prepare me for this next big step. On May 15th 2023 I opened my practice in Costa Mesa. I felt such pride in this moment in the courage it took. This was my dream! I had finally created my practice. As liberated as I felt by this next incredible stage of my life, I had never felt more raw, naked and entering another rebirth from this. One where I came out a Woman, confident in her abilities, humbled by the strength it takes to walk out of your comfort zone daily, continuously expanding to ensure the purpose of serving others is met and with pure love. The journey to get there was what required ultimate trust in my healing. The allowing of receiving and holding love has been a great lesson for me in having a business and owning my light as a healer throughout my life. The first 6 months of my business opening I spent many hours clearing deep wounds within myself, feeling very exposed, and learning how to build my business. I was continuously being guided and supported the whole way by my Angels, Guides and with the love and support of my husband and loved ones. There were many moments of synchronicities, signs and support that kept me going. From a magical email that led me to discovering the Newport Chamber of Commerce where I met soul family for me and my husband, was introduced to a Physical Therapist Evelyn Garcia from Health Body Alignment who incorporated spiritual healing into her practice and helped me clear emotional trauma as well as realign my hips and pelvic floor. The Chamber also introduced me to a roundtable and where I learned numerous ways to grow a business. I even received referrals and connections from there that finally provided me with new clients coming through the door. This was huge for me. The amount of synchronicities that occurred in connecting me and my husband to more friendships as well as business opportunities was pure magic. As I expanded, I felt a calling to shift my practice to Women and Couples experiencing Fertility/Pregnancy/Postpartum. This calling was where I have felt the most love pour through me and an overall feeling of fulfillment. My soul lights up every time I connect and help someone in this phase of life. I look forward to holding and supporting the many families moving forward and guiding them on their journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I found many challenges along the way, I definitely did not think it would take me so long to open my practice and understand how long it would have taken to become a full thriving business. There were many roadblocks to clear and overcome, most of which were battles within myself and learning how to clear the old stories of not being worthy of being heard, seen, or capable of holding such a bright light.
What all the obstacles and challenges taught me overtime was to never give up on your soul purpose, hold your light with pride no matter what anyone says or thinks, to always fight for your internal clarity through consistent reflection, clearing and healing, and to trust the universal timing and plan. It may look to you like your dreams are not happening, but the reality is the universe is helping you collect knowledge, insights, tools and ultimately providing you with everything you need to accomplish your dream with less stress and much more freedom and abundance than you ever imagined. I also learned to surrender to the flow of your own internal energy and the universal energy of love. This will save you much chaos and create your path with peace and ease. Acceptance is also key, accepting yourself and every part of you in your humaniness. Also when you fully trust in the universe plan it may look different than the dream you envisioned but it will be the plan that makes you feel most full, abundant and prosperous and honor your true gifts.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is waking up everyday and working toward honoring your soul. Success is trusting in your vision, and continuously moving through each roadblock internally and externally to uplift and clear the path with each movement forward, with each insight and awareness on yourself as a soul and your internal calling. Success is accepting who you are throughout each step, and aligning with the flow of your journey. Trusting that if you are guided to shift your goal or vision that it is truly for your highest good and aligning to this flow within yourself each day. Success isn’t measured by reaching your end goal, it’s about loving and admiring the lessons and journey along the way. It is about continuously being open and loving yourself through the journey, accepting your shadow, your past and seeing these as experiences that allow you to heal something deep within you. Success is defined by self love and creation, through acceptance of who you are and trusting you will never be left alone on your path. Success is allowing your guides and higher source of light to support you, releasing the control and loving yourself in every step. Knowing you are who you are, and believing in your light within you enough to fight, be diligent, to pick yourself back up over and over again to find more clarity of who you are and work toward honoring your soul. It’s about realigning, shifting, and surrendering. Everyday you wake up is a day of success if you draw awareness within you and choose to love some piece of you more than the day before. It’s about seeing the value in your growth and listening within.
