Hidden Gems: Meet Mary of Mary Minassian Design LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary.

Hi Mary, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story began with a deep love for design, fashion, beauty, and creating spaces that feel both meaningful and personal. I have a degree in architecture, but I found myself most inspired by the more intimate and emotional side of design – transforming houses into homes that reflect the people who live in them.

After moving to Los Angeles, I was blessed to work for renowned architects and interior designers. Soon after, I started taking on small design projects while balancing family life. What started out as word-of-mouth referrals slowly turned into a steady flow of clients, and that’s when I realized this could be more than a side passion.

Today, I run my own design firm where I focus on timeless, elevated interiors with a touch of personality and warmth. My work is grounded in the belief that good design isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about how a space makes you feel.

The journey has been a rollercoaster, and I’ve had to grow not only as a designer, but develop the skills of a savvy business owner. Every challenge has taught me something valuable, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come, building a business rooted in creativity, trust, and personal connection with my clients. I’ve never been busier, and I’ve never been happier!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road; like most creative paths, mine has had its share of challenges. One of the biggest struggles has been learning how to balance the creative side of my work with the demands of running a business. As a designer, it’s easy to get lost in the vision and details, but building a sustainable business requires structure, planning, and constant decision-making.

And of course, like many working moms, managing family life and business responsibilities can start to feel overwhelming, but none of this could have been possible without my supportive husband Troy. I leaned on him and his experience in business to help me launch my own, and he’s there for me and our children when my schedule can be unpredictable.

Through it all, I’ve stayed committed to growing, adapting, and doing the best I can with what I have. Every obstacle has helped shape who I am as a designer and entrepreneur today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mary Minassian Design LLC?
Mary Minassian Design is a boutique interior design studio based in Los Angeles. I work on single-family, multi-family, and commercial projects, offering tailored design services that bring function, beauty, and personality to every space.

My style blends timeless elegance with warmth, and I’m known for thoughtful details, layered textures, and a seamless client experience – especially for those who don’t have time to manage it all themselves.

What sets my brand apart is the personal connection I build with my clients and the trust they place in me to bring their vision to life. Whether it’s a single room or a full-scale renovation, I aim to create spaces that feel elevated, livable, and uniquely yours.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe that any time you choose to follow a creative path or start something of your own, you’re taking a risk. For me, the biggest risk was stepping away from a more traditional career path in architecture to build something more personal and uncertain. There was no clear roadmap, just a deep belief in my vision and the hope that there was a place for it.

Another major risk was putting myself out there, sharing my work publicly, speaking up in client meetings, and learning to lead with confidence even when I felt unsure. It’s uncomfortable, but I’ve found that growth always comes after those moments of discomfort.

I wouldn’t describe myself as naturally bold or fearless, but I’ve learned that taking small, intentional risks especially the ones that align with your values can open up unexpected opportunities. To me, risk is part of the process, and it often signals that you’re moving toward something meaningful.
