Hidden Gems: Meet Lauren Jones of Alter New Media

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Jones.

Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2016, I did not have many career prospects and was working a dead-end job. I decided I needed to change my career trajectory and financial future. I had already dabbled into some entrepreneurial pursuits in 2012 and 2013. Entrepreneurship was that outlet. I would help individuals with headshots, videography, video editing, photo editing, publicity, and social media management. Around 2016, I became more diligent in my pursuits. I started acquiring clients with Nadya Rousseau, my business and life partner. These clients needed social media, publicity, and content creation. As our productized services became more sophisticated, we began expanding our team. Over the next four years, we introduced influencer marketing, an influencer division, press pitching, marketing strategy execution, and marketing packages. To date, we have served over 600 customers and clients worldwide and have a team of fifteen individuals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Throughout the duration of my entrepreneurial venture, there have been some struggles along the way. One of the main struggles has been hiring dependable people who do what they say they will do. Sometimes there is a disconnect with the people we’ve hired to do a task. Managing people who don’t take direction or want to coast by in an organization can be very hard. Some people would instead collect a paycheck than do any actual work, which can be very difficult as a business owner because our clients have certain expectations. We believe in quality and meeting our clientele’s reasonable expectations. There are specific benchmarks and milestones we must hit monthly to please our clients. If we find that someone on our team is not up for the tasks we assign, we, unfortunately, have to end the relationship. We believe that work relationships need to be 100% reciprocal. If there are any imbalances, we address the issue head-on immediately.

Alter New Media is a full-service digital marketing agency. We are a fifteen-person team. Our team includes videographers, copywriters, editors, project managers, email marketers, bloggers, content creators, article writers, and web developers. We specialize in full marketing strategies, branding, publicity, consulting, email marketing, lead magnets, blogging, web maintenance, video editing, videography, copywriting, and newsletter creation.

Our commitment to purpose and profit sets us apart from other businesses. We believe that purpose and profit aren’t mutually exclusive. It is our goal to help companies to realize and fulfill their purpose. We help them find ways to impact society while earning profits positively. To reach this goal, we pair influencers with nonprofits, for-profits with nonprofits, and positive impact influencers with for-profits to do the most good.

Our full marketing strategy contains direction about relevant hashtags, whom to follow, leveraging social media channels, engagement tools, demographics, psychographics, SWOT analysis, competitor analysis, content marketing, interactive approaches, and a one-hour consultation to discuss objectives and goals. Our brand strategy includes tone-of-voice, key phrases, origin story, mission statement, vision statement, the “why” behind the brand, color scheme, fonts, online brand presentation, and logo mockups. The Publicist in A Box package includes an original press release distributed to hundreds of publications, 3 original published articles, and pitching to 50 niche-relevant journalists and niche-specific industry professionals. We work diligently to ascertain the client’s needs and goals. They are given a questionnaire so we can properly assess their brand and objectives.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality about me that is the most important to my success is my commitment. I prioritize the work needed to be done to please my clients. A characteristic about me that leads to my success are my leadership skills. I make sure that myself and my team go above and beyond. I try to gauge others and understand them thoroughly. I ensure that my team is supported and has the right tools to achieve the quality and requirements our clients expect.
