Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Stotland. Them and their team share their story with us below:
With a successful marketing career and extensive philanthropy experience, Laura Stotland knew she could make a difference in her community. She created South Bay Mommies & Daddies in 2017 with the purpose of supporting local families. As the administrator of a popular local Facebook group, she saw the same questions come up again and again, so she decided to launch a website.
In 2021, Laura was selected for the prestigious Facebook Accelerator Program, which included a grant. She used the resources from the grant to rebrand, establish Local Anchor as a full-service media company, and launch the website. It also allowed her to expand into the greater Los Angeles area.
Laura’s goal was to create more than just a directory of local resources. She wanted to bring the community together by encouraging families and businesses to give back, lead with kindness, and support each other. She also wanted to use her vast marketing and philanthropic expertise to support small businesses. Local Anchor has grown from just an idea into a successful media company that is making a difference. Families and businesses have come to regard it as a valuable and trusted community resource.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As with everything, there were definitely struggles along the way. Trying to run a business with young children is a challenge in itself. There were also big life challenges that appeared throughout this journey, and let’s not forget about the pandemic! But I was determined to keep it going and building community. In a weird way, it pushed me to work harder.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Local Anchor is the go-to destination for hyper-local content and community engagement. Our masterfully curated content offers families a one-stop shop for finding local events, things to do, places to go, things to eat, and ways to give back. We also promote buying local and giving back – two tenets that are essential for building strong communities. With our platform, businesses can connect with families looking for products, services, and events offered in their neighborhood.
