Today we’d like to introduce you to Erick Gonzalez.
Hi Erick, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got started in dryer vent cleaning after a personal family experience made me realize how serious dryer vent safety really is. A family member experienced a dryer fire scare, and when we tried finding a company that truly specialized in dryer vent systems, it was surprisingly difficult. That moment opened my eyes to how overlooked this industry was and how many homeowners were trusting companies that didn’t fully understand dryer ventilation systems.
I had already spent many years working with ventilation systems and hands-on service work, so I decided to focus on building a company that specialized specifically in dryer vent cleaning, airflow issues, and dryer fire prevention. Over time, I invested in better equipment, continued learning the technical side of dryer ventilation systems, and built the business around honesty, education, and doing the job correctly the first time.
Today, 101 Lint Busters proudly serves homeowners, property managers, and commercial clients throughout Ventura County and surrounding areas. We’re a family-owned business, and we’ve built our reputation by being hands-on, explaining problems clearly, and helping customers understand the importance of proper dryer vent maintenance, airflow, and safety. A lot of our growth has come from referrals and repeat customers who appreciate that we take the time to do things right instead of rushing through jobs.
At the end of the day, our mission is simple: help people stay safe, improve dryer performance, and prevent dryer fires through proper dryer vent cleaning and maintenance.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I first started the business about 16 years ago, there were very few companies in our area offering dryer vent cleaning, so a lot of our early work was simply educating people on why the service even mattered.
Over time, the industry became much more crowded. Today, many different types of companies offer dryer vent cleaning services, ranging from handyman services to carpet cleaners and general duct cleaning companies. One of the biggest challenges has been helping customers understand the difference between a true dryer vent specialist and companies offering quick, low-cost services that may not actually solve the problem.
We’ve seen many situations where homeowners or property managers paid for inexpensive cleanings, only to continue having airflow issues, long dry times, or even safety concerns afterward. Because of that, education has become a major part of what we do. We spend a lot of time walking customers through how dryer ventilation systems work, what causes restrictions, and why proper maintenance matters.
Like any small family-owned business, there have also been challenges with rising costs, growing competition, and adapting to changes in the industry. But through all of it, we’ve stayed focused on doing quality work, being honest with customers, and building long-term relationships. That consistency has helped us continue growing year after year.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
101 Lint Busters is a family-owned dryer vent cleaning company based in Ventura County. We specialize in dryer vent cleaning, airflow diagnostics, dryer vent reroutes, commercial dryer vent maintenance, and helping homeowners and businesses identify hidden ventilation problems that often go unnoticed until they become serious issues.
Over the years, we’ve worked on everything from residential homes and HOA properties to laundromats, hotels, apartment complexes, and commercial buildings. What really sets us apart is that we focus specifically on dryer ventilation systems. We’re not a company that simply added dryer vent cleaning onto a long list of other services. This is what we do every day, and because of that, we’ve developed a deep understanding of airflow, vent restrictions, improper installations, moisture issues, and the real-world problems that affect dryer performance and safety.
One thing we’re especially known for is taking the time to educate customers. A lot of people don’t realize how many dryer vent systems are improperly installed, partially blocked, crushed behind the dryer, or simply never maintained. We believe customers deserve honest answers and a clear understanding of what’s actually going on with their system instead of being pressured into unnecessary upsells.
Brand-wise, what we’re most proud of is the reputation we’ve built over the last 16 years. Most of our growth has come through word of mouth, repeat customers, and referrals from people who appreciate that we show up, explain things clearly, and do the work the right way. Being family-owned has always been important to us, and we’ve worked hard to build a business people feel comfortable trusting in their homes and properties.
At the end of the day, our goal is simple: improve dryer safety, improve airflow and efficiency, and help prevent dryer fires through proper dryer vent maintenance and education.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice to anybody starting their own business is simple — don’t give up. There are going to be hard days, slow periods, mistakes, stress, and moments where you question whether it’s all worth it. But consistency and determination really do matter. If owning a business was easy, everybody would do it.
One thing I definitely wish I understood earlier is that just because you own the company doesn’t mean you stop answering to people. Honestly, it’s kind of the opposite. When I was younger, I thought owning a business meant freedom — making my own schedule and doing things however I wanted. The reality is you end up answering to everybody: your customers, your employees, your family, your vendors, your schedule, and your reputation. 😂
But at the same time, there’s something rewarding about building something of your own and watching it grow over the years. My advice would be to stay patient, keep learning, treat people right, and don’t be afraid to adapt as things change. A good reputation takes years to build, but it can open doors you never expected.
