Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Singleton.
Hi Charles, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Charles Singleton Jr., founder and CEO of TreImage, has turned a turbulent upbringing into the fuel behind one of today’s most dynamic branding firms. After growing up in foster care, losing his mother young, and moving through 27 schools, he pushed forward to earn multiple degrees and cut his teeth in licensing as VP of Operations at Miramar Brands. Armed with that experience, he launched TreImage with a bold philosophy — “we eat what we kill” — meaning the firm only wins when its clients do. Since then, he’s led TreImage to major wins like bringing Sunkist salad dressings into Walmart, while carving out space for urban and minority brands that the industry too often overlooks. Along the way, Singleton has battled systemic barriers, from lack of access to capital to the stereotypes tied to hip-hop and entertainment, but he’s built TreImage into a creative force with global ambitions. His mission is simple but powerful: elevate voices that deserve to be heard, prove resilience can outwork circumstance, and make TreImage a name synonymous with breakthrough brand partnerships worldwide.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When I launched TreImage, we were already fighting an uphill battle as a minority-owned business — access to capital was tougher, the standards were higher, and we had to work twice as hard just to prove ourselves. Then COVID hit, and overnight we lost millions of dollars in opportunities that were already lined up. On top of that, breaking into spaces like hip-hop and entertainment meant navigating stereotypes, permit challenges, and funding barriers. Those moments could have stopped us, but instead they forced me to get sharper, lean into creativity, and push TreImage to find new ways forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about TreImage LLC?
TreImage is a full-service marketing, branding, and licensing agency — and now a recently announced manufacturer — that has quickly made its mark as one of the first Black-owned licensing firms in the country. Founded by Charles Singleton Jr., the company was built to level the playing field for brands and talent often overlooked in mainstream licensing, bringing fresh ideas and a results-driven approach that has already landed national retail wins and high-profile collaborations.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For me, mentorship and networking have never been about chasing the biggest name in the room — it’s about finding people who are willing to be real with you, even if that means sharing their failures more than their wins. The best mentors I’ve had were the ones who taught me how to navigate contracts, credit, and strategy by being honest about what didn’t work for them. When it comes to networking, I focus on building genuine relationships instead of transactional ones. People can sense when you’re authentic, and that authenticity opens doors in ways a polished pitch never could. My advice: lead with curiosity, be willing to listen more than you talk, and never be afraid to ask questions others might shy away from — that’s usually where the real learning happens.
