Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruce Kramer.
Bruce, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It’s been a long journey. Before starting Buttercup Venues in 2016, I owned ARTMIX, an artist representation company representing photographers, directors, hairdressers, make-up artists, and stylists with an office in NY and LA, 5th and Sunset Studios, and Productions with facilities in LA, NY, Miami & London.
Prior to that, I was a photographer shooting fashion, celebrities, and musicians living in NY, Milan & Sydney.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth is boring. Photography used to be a skill.
You needed to know how to light a subject, expose film, and have an understanding of fashion, hair, make-up, and styling, and you had to wait for your results until the film was processed. There was little to no margin for error.
Nowadays, anyone can take a great photo with their phone and correct/enhance it with apps.
Before websites, we would send out portfolios for review, and clients would request to see photos of locations which were generally presented in manila folders that had to be sent via FedEx back and forth.
At the same time, technology has made things easier, faster, more convenient, and, in a way, disposable.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
All of the knowledge I garnered being an agent, a producer, a studio/production company owner, and a photographer gave me a unique insight into content creation, marketing, and advertising, as well as the understanding of what makes a location viable and what attributes are needed for a client whether it be a 200 million dollar feature, an event for a luxury fashion brand or a fashion shoot.
Currently, we offer over 150 properties that are film and event friendly in mostly Downtown LA.
While we work with content creators, property owners are also our clients. We represent as many who have an unprecedented amount of vacant properties in their portfolio as we are able to create passive income for them while the property is vacant.
We are considered asset managers in the real estate industry by creating income from underutilized properties.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in the risk-reward ratio. If you have an idea, you need to look at the playing field and the competitors and determine if you can do it better.
Do you have a disruptive nature about you? Can you offer something they aren’t?
Do you have the ability to manage people and deal with stressful situations?
Can you afford to take a risk, and or are you willing to go into debt?
Seneca said, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.”
