AVB stands for my initials, Ashima Vij Brar. I am a mother of two amazing young adults, my 23-year-old son and my 21-year-old daughter who are both successfully working as graduates from UC Berkeley and USC. I enjoyed being a travel sports mom and PTA mom that held VP Fundraising roles for 21 years for some of the city of Torrance schools. While being a mom, I had a corporate career in biotech as a physician with an MBA for over 25 years and started 3 nonprofits, Lemonade Stand and Helpful Homeless Hands, and Southbay Tender Homecare, helping kids in need of food, clothing, shelter and education, helping our homeless and our elderly population live a better life.

Once I became an empty nester, I had to find my new purpose and passion. I was sad and missing my children. After doing the work to feel whole again, over the last few years, I started 4 businesses around my passions. Music helped heal my heart when my kids moved away for school so I wanted to give back to musicians and find ways to help them so I started AVB Records. Then, I was laid off in my biotech job due to failed trials, so I started my own biotech consulting firm, AVB Consulting. My other passion is to take care of our elderly so I started Southbay Tender Homecare to help place caregivers that treat your loved ones like our own. Lastly, after I got a divorce in 2025, I wanted to help others navigate a new life of purpose, passion and happiness after being alone, a second chapter in life for me so I became a certified Jay Shetty life coach. Since I believe we are all one community helping each other get through life together, I call many of my events and concerts, We Are One, to remind us that we are meant to go through the journey of life together.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not always easy to find the time to raise my kids, be an involved parent with school and sports schedules, have a demanding corporate career, and to find time to start my nonprofits that I felt passionately about. I just knew if I didn’t help kids in need and our homeless, I would not have felt I was living my life to maximize my purpose.

Also, after I became an empty nester and got a divorce, I felt sad and alone. I had lots of amazing friends and family in nearby cities, but I just needed to soul search and find my new purpose and passion in order to find happiness again. That’s when I started my next three businesses, AVB Records, Southbay Tender Homecare,, and AVB Lifecoaching, where I help local musicians, our elderly populations, and life coaching others to help them get through some of the same challenges I faced. I’m grateful for the dark times since it helped me find my bigger purpose.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I became a Jay Shetty certified life coach to help others find answers within themselves based on their unique situation. I specialize in work, family, finances, health and fitness, social life and volunteering. Much of my specialty comes from my own personal life experience in dealing with challenges in each of these areas, but overcoming them. I would like to give hope and guidance to those that might need it in order to make these difficult times a bit easier Jay Shetty, as many of us know, specializes in areas to help people find their purpose. It was an amazing program to help each of his coaches help others also find their purpose and passion. I do feel that it is in life‘s hardest moments that we can find beauty and happiness I am based in Redondo Beach, but I do take clients online and currently have some in New York City and Oklahoma City.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have been blessed to have many amazing mentors that I have worked with Oregon gone to school with my personal opinion is to seek out somebody you highly respect in the field. You’re looking to be mentored in reach out. Continue to communicate with them and learn from them as you communicate some of my mentors were not officially my bosses, but I would often call them when I would have a situation I needed some guidance on we became friends sometimes they would even use me as their mentor in another situation and if you don’t know anybody in your field or your specialty look on LinkedIn, it is definitely worked for several friends and family members not all will say yes but many will happily offer their guidance
