Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Coscarelli.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
After studying Fashion Merchandising at LIM College in New York City, I worked full-time as a fashion editor at Refinery29 where I really got my start in the fashion industry and started to build my network of fashion brands, both corporate and emerging. Having simultaneously grown my personal Instagram following throughout college and after, I was able to leave my post at R29 and go freelance at the end of 2018, to focus on my career as a content creator and consultant. Aside from partnering with brands on my social media accounts, I also consulting for emerging brands on everything from creative direction to copywriting to PR and influencer strategy, working with clothing and jewelry retailers as well as tech startups in the fashion and lifestyle spaces. My passion has always been supporting small businesses, and after having the opportunity to co-design with a couple brand partners, I had the idea for Infinite, my e-commerce platform where I spotlight and co-design limited-edition collaborations with emerging fashion and lifestyle brands. From apparel and accessories to jewelry and home decor, Infinite is a place of discovery to uncover the next big thing. We offer ethically made, limited-edition goods that you truly can’t find anywhere else. And I’ve been running the company in LA (where I’ve lived the past two years), since early 2022, while still sharing my journey on social media for my loyal followers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think any new business goes off without a hitch! When I first launched Infinite, my shopping platform for limited-edition collaborations, I was launching a new collaboration item for sale every week. I was quickly in over my head. But luckily, I was able to re-jig our timing and switch to a monthly drop schedule, rather than weekly, and it was much more manageable. We’re also still learning what our customer best responds to —what categories and price points really resonate. And, in the days of super-fast fashion, it’s a lot to compete with the volume and prices of other e-tailers. But we’re trying to do something different with Infinite (slow fashion made with ethical labor and small quantities), so it’s not going to come without its challenges, but it’s worth it to be a part of a necessary change of the way things are done.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Infinite is a home for limited-edition collaborations with the best-emerging brands you don’t know about yet. Whether you’re looking for a unique lamp or rug for your home, or a special piece to gift your friend or yourself, we specialize in ethically made, small-batch items you truly can’t find anywhere else, all while spotlight the amazing, emerging makers behind them, because we believe that small business and collaboration are the future.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
My father has always said that luck is when preparation meets opportunity. I’m very fortunate to have had an upbringing that supports my creative endeavors, and I think that’s my biggest good-luck charm of all — a truly loyal support system that encourages me to follow my dreams and see through my goals.
