Hidden Gems: Meet Alison Rodriguez of AMR Social Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Rodriguez.

Hi Alison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I spent almost 20 years in corporate marketing and communications, hitting deadlines, checking boxes, and doing everything “right.” When I finally walked away, I held a respected role, worked closely with executive leadership, and helped shape major business decisions. On paper, I was successful, but in real life, I was completely burned out.

Everything changed when I became a mom.

After a few miscarriages, I got pregnant again, dealt with an unexpected premature delivery, and my daughter spent the first eight weeks of her life in the NICU. That experience, plus medical trauma and postpartum PTSD, completely cracked me open. I came home with a preemie, no monitors, no nurses, and was stuck in survival mode.

During that time, I realized: the “push through it” corporate mindset is not built for mothers, and I really didn’t want to white-knuckle my way through that anymore. I wanted to be present for my daughter, protect my mental health, and build a life that actually worked for my family, not just my résumé.

So I took everything I knew — storytelling, branding, strategy, and design — and built my own business. What started as a leap of faith quickly grew into a marketing consultancy created with flexibility, no corporate BS, and an understanding of small businesses and real life.

Now, I’m more fulfilled, more creative, and more grounded than I’ve ever been. And if my experience has taught me anything, it’s that success doesn’t have to cost you your health, your sense of self, your family life, or your time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business as a mom is not the Pinterest version of entrepreneurship.

One of the biggest struggles was unlearning the corporate mindset: I had to keep reminding myself that I no longer had to abide by the idea that productivity equals worth and that my confidence level wasn’t based on my salary. I had to relearn how to work when it worked for me (not when someone else required me to clock in), and I had to give myself permission to slow down without feeling like I was failing.

There was the financial fear that comes with walking away from a steady paycheck, especially as a new parent, but honestly, the hardest part was internal — learning to trust my instincts again and have the confidence to know I could do this.

It wasn’t smooth, but it’s been awesome. Every challenge forced me to build a business (and a life) that actually works for me, instead of having to sacrifice myself for it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about AMR Social Club?
AMR Social Club is a marketing consultancy for small business owners who are tired of guessing, overthinking, and paying for marketing that doesn’t actually do anything.

I specialize in brand clarity, messaging, content strategy, and ongoing marketing support, but more than that, I’m known for being a true partner to the clients I work with. I don’t just “do the work”, I help clients figure out what they actually need, why it matters, how things work, and how to move forward without burning time or money.

What really sets my work apart is how personal it is: I don’t believe in cookie-cutter packages or throwing ideas at the wall hoping something sticks. One of my favorite sayings is, “we’re not moving Jell-O around the plate”, and it’s basically just my way of saying we aren’t doing things that have no purpose. Everything I do is rooted in strategy, real goals, and what makes sense for that business at that stage.

I’m really proud of the trust I build with each of my clients. So many of the people I work with come to me hesitant because they’ve been burned by agencies before or aren’t sure marketing is even worth the investment. My goal is for them to feel relief, clarity, and confidence instead of pressure or confusion.

At the end of the day, I want to make marketing feel not-so-scary so that my clients can stop guessing, stop reading Reddit threads about how to DIY their SEO at 2 AM, and start moving forward with a marketing plan that actually fits their real life and business goals.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I have tons!

My parents separated when I was 10 years old, and we had different summer traditions with each parent. We spent time in San Diego with my dad — riding bikes, hanging at the beach, and sailing throughout Mission Bay on our boat. We also spent time in Palm Springs with my mom and grandparents, enjoying the sun, swimming for hours, and having a blast in the heat.

Funny enough, my parents have come full circle since my childhood and have gotten back together — and we still spend time in both Palm Springs and sailing around as much as we can.
