Exploring Life & Business with Victoria Monsch of 1-2-3 Soleil Childcare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Monsch.

Hi Victoria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started 1-2-3 Soleil Childcare during a time of major change in my life. I was working as a preschool teacher while pregnant, and after giving birth to my son, I chose to stay home rather than return to my previous position.

Later, when I separated from his dad, I began reflecting on my life and what I truly wanted for myself and my child. I realized that returning to a traditional childcare setting no longer made sense. I didn’t want to spend my days caring for other children while someone else cared for my own.

That realization became my turning point. I decided to open my own in-home daycare. Everything finally made sense. I was home with my son, watching him grow, and he was surrounded by friends in a warm, nurturing environment. I truly couldn’t have dreamed of anything better.

I love children and care for them unconditionally. Creating 1-2-3 Soleil Childcare allowed me to align my values as a mother and an educator, and it continues to be deeply fulfilling to provide loving, high-quality care every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. When I first started, I was under a lot of stress — I was caring for only two children while paying very high rent, which made things financially challenging at the beginning. Thankfully, things improved quickly as more families found me and trusted me with their children.

Some challenges also come with the children themselves, as every child has different needs and personalities. As an entrepreneur, I’m always thinking ahead, and for me that means making sure I consistently provide high-quality care and a great experience for both children and families.

One ongoing challenge is anticipating transitions, especially when children leave for preschool. Planning ahead for those changes is an important part of maintaining stability while continuing to grow and improve my childcare service.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
1-2-3 Soleil Childcare is a small, home-based French daycare offering a nurturing, intentional, and high-quality early learning environment. We specialize in French immersion, providing children with daily exposure to the French language in a natural, playful, and engaging way.

Our program is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which means we believe children are capable, curious, and full of potential. We focus on child-led learning, hands-on exploration, and open-ended play using natural, wooden toys that encourage creativity and problem-solving.

Nutrition is a core part of our philosophy. I personally cook all meals and snacks for the children, using wholesome, organic ingredients whenever possible. Preparing food myself allows me to ensure meals are nourishing, balanced, and tailored to the children’s needs, because caring for children also means caring for their health and well-being.

What truly sets 1-2-3 Soleil Childcare apart is our small, close-knit community. Rather than caring for a large number of children, we intentionally keep our group small so each child receives individualized attention, special care, and strong emotional support. Communication with parents is very important to us, and we prioritize open, honest, and consistent communication with families.

As both an educator and a parent, I deeply understand how parents feel when leaving their child in someone else’s care. That perspective shapes everything I do. I am most proud of creating a space where children feel safe, respected, and loved and where parents feel confident, informed, and truly supported.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest piece of advice for anyone just starting out is to find support and guidance early on. I was very lucky to have an experienced in-home daycare provider who guided me through the process and helped me work through my fears and uncertainties in the beginning. Having someone who understands the journey makes a huge difference.

Be patient with yourself and with the process. Every time a new child starts, I learn something new. This work always comes with challenges, but patience, flexibility, and trust in yourself are essential.

One thing I didn’t fully expect was how quickly the community would grow. I am deeply grateful for every family that has trusted me with their child. At the same time, it’s important to remember that this work is emotional. We spend so much time with the children, and saying goodbye when they leave for school is never easy.

What I’ve learned is to trust that everything works out. Growth doesn’t always look easy, but it’s meaningful, and it’s worth it.
