Exploring Life & Business with Kalisha Crone-Ross of Graceful Change Counseling Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalisha Crone-Ross.

Kalisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a proud alumna of the University of Southern California and Columbia University School of Social Work, and I’ve always believed that mental health care should be accessible, excellent, and culturally grounded. My career has been shaped by that conviction that everyone deserves to thrive, not just survive.

Before I started my private practice, Graceful Change Counseling Center, I worked as a School Social Worker across South L.A., East L.A., and Compton. Those years changed everything for me. I witnessed firsthand how powerful therapy can be when it’s paired with understanding when families feel seen, and when healing reflects the culture, values, and realities of the people being served. That experience is what taught me to practice through a trauma-informed and equity-driven lens.

My early work as a school counselor gave me a foundation in group facilitation and psychoeducation, but it was the one-on-one stories, sitting across from a child, a parent, or a young adult navigating life transitions, that really drew me in. Now, as a therapist and founder, I get to create that space every day.

Through Graceful Change Counseling Center, my team and I support children, adolescents, and adults who are ready to transform how they relate to themselves and others. What I love most is helping people find ease where there’s been pressure and possibility where there’s been pain. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see clients realize that thriving in their relationships, careers, and emotional lives is possible with the right tools and support.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and honestly, I think that’s part of what makes this work so meaningful to me. The path to becoming a licensed therapist was not linear. There were times when progress felt delayed, especially early on when certain employers placed restrictions on clinical supervision hours. For context, clinical supervision is the process every therapist-in-training must complete under the guidance of a seasoned clinician before earning full licensure. It’s where you refine your clinical skills, learn ethical judgment, and develop your professional identity.

Those delays were frustrating because I was eager to grow and serve my clients more independently, but they also taught me patience and advocacy, how to stand up for myself and for others in similar situations.

Alongside the professional hurdles, I’ve had my share of personal struggles too, including the grief of losing close relatives. Grief changes you; it shifts how you see healing. I think it deepened my empathy and reminded me that therapists are human too. We walk through the same valleys as the people we support.

Thankfully, I’ve been surrounded by incredible people along the way. My family has been my foundation, and I’ve had the privilege of working with supervisors who were not only clinically skilled but also genuinely caring and validating. Their mentorship shaped how I now supervise and support other clinicians, with compassion, honesty, and a deep belief in their potential.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Graceful Change Counseling Center is my private practice where I work one-on-one with adolescents and adults. As a solo practitioner, I focus on helping people navigate life transitions, manage anxiety, heal from trauma, and develop healthier relationships with themselves and others. My approach is warm, practical, and deeply reflective. I want clients to feel seen, understood, and equipped to make lasting changes in their lives.

What sets my work apart is the blend of clinical expertise and cultural sensitivity that I bring to every session. I’ve worked in diverse communities across South Los Angeles, East L.A., and Compton, and that experience shaped how I show up as a therapist. I understand how family, community, and culture influence mental health, and I honor those layers in the healing process.

I’m most proud of the way Graceful Change represents authenticity and compassion. The name itself reflects what I believe about therapy: that change doesn’t have to be rushed or harsh. It can be intentional, compassionate, and sustainable.

For readers who may be struggling, I want them to know that therapy doesn’t have to feel intimidating or clinical. It’s a space where you can reconnect with yourself, process what you’ve been carrying, and begin to thrive again. At Graceful Change Counseling Center, that’s the heart of what I do, helping people find clarity, self-trust, and a gentler way forward.
