Jordyn Shapiro is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Just Start LA, an educational company built on the belief that every client deserves personalized, holistic support to thrive — academically, professionally, and personally. Her journey began at age 15, when she started tutoring students in her community and quickly recognized the deep need for individualized guidance, especially around executive functioning and confidence-building.

A UCLA graduate with a degree in Psychology, Jordyn combined her academic background with her passion for mentorship and coaching to launch Just Start LA. What began as a small tutoring effort has since grown into a comprehensive educational hub serving tweens through adults and their families. Just Start LA is where growth begins by providing practical, personalized tools that help clients stay organized, motivated, and self-aware.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building Just Start LA has meant steady growth. But starting so young brought unique hurdles.

One of the primary challenges was transitioning from a single mentor, Jordyn, to a structured organization. Because the company is built on the belief that every client deserves personalized, holistic support, the challenge was to ensure that, as the team grew, the “magic” of that individualized guidance wouldn’t be lost. Maintaining a high standard of executive function coaching while expanding its reach to serve everyone from tweens to adults required building rigorous yet flexible systems.

While Jordyn’s UCLA degree in Psychology provided the perfect clinical and developmental foundation for the work, the “business” side of an educational startup presents a different set of obstacles. Obstacles include moving beyond traditional “subject tutoring” to focus on the deeper needs for executive functioning and confidence-building. As well as educating families and the community on why practical tools for organization and motivation are just as vital as academic content.

Starting a career at 15 means growing up alongside your business. As a result, the journey involved shifting from a local community tutor to a CEO responsible for a multi-faceted team and diverse client base. This evolution required a constant adaptation of leadership style and a commitment to staying self-aware, the very trait Jordyn now helps her clients develop.
