Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Auten.
Hi Jordan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Where do I begin?! I grew up in Las Vegas playing competitive golf in local & regional tournaments and then eventually around the world. I knew at a very young age; I had this deeply rooted connection with movies and stories. This connection was meaningful, watching movies gave me permission to express my emotions safely; to feel. I learned how to experience the feeling of inspiration through my young career as a competitive golfer, and through watching movies. Seems a bit out of touch with reality? It wasn’t. It was more like an avenue to express myself. It was through this process that at a very young age, I was determined to be a film director. This was not a desire to be famous or a part of ‘Hollywood,’ even that I knew as a child. It was my soul mission calling that I didn’t understand from my mind’s perspective at the time, and I chose to pursue it anyway. Yes, it was a dream, and I went for it. I finished out my college experience as a collegiate athlete and decided to apply to UCLA Film School for my master’s degree and I got in. For me, that was the end of one life cycle into the next.
I have always felt connected to directing because it is a way to contribute to the world by creating relatable stories about the human experience. This, in essence, I have always known on a soul level was and is a part of my purpose, my mission, and my way of creating a positive and impactful message for others.
In the process of building my career in the film & television industry, I discovered my love for surfing. Since I was a child, living in the desert, I always felt a sheer calling to be near the ocean. Almost as if I was placed in an opposite environment to my organic natural state, so that I could journey my way back home. Again, all of this is soul lead and divinely guided by the universe. In 2012, a friend of mine offered to take me surfing and I said yes. It did change my life, but it didn’t begin to have an impact on my life until 2016. From 2012 to 2016, I was experiencing a lot of loss and traumatic turmoil that is all part of the bigger picture of my spiritual awakening. Which, prior to this up-leveling of my own consciousness, I was that person who experienced the term ‘spiritual awakening’ as cliché. And now I know what it truly means. It is not cliché and is a very subjective and personal experience.
It was in 2019, that I infused the knowledge and experience of my awakening, my directing, and humanitarian gifts and talents to creating the current community and business, Yoniswell Surf Collective. When I created this community, it came from a place of my own healing and empowerment process. From my human mind, I didn’t really understand what was happening within myself at the time, and I didn’t know necessarily what I was doing or what Yoniswell was to become. I was allowing my intuition and the universe, this powerful, sacred force beyond me to guide me. I just knew that there was a need for this space for women desiring to surf to find each other and then surf together in the community. Surfing is a highly male-dominated sport that appears to have no welcoming room for women to share the stoke. This is not true. Yoniswell Surf Collective is a collaborator in changing and re-writing the status quo. With these changes and embarking on new territory, I knew that the journey of surfing and documenting the stories within it can lead to a positive journey of healing and empowerment for one to become the best version of themselves.
It was later as Yoniswell began to expand, that I realized the depth of my own spiritual awakening and that I was divinely guided to transform myself to be the best version of myself and to also lead this community and tribe while doing it. It has been a heartwarming, humbling, yet very messy spiritual experience all for my highest good. It has also been a revolutionary experience in changing the belief systems and mindset we were programmed to believe regarding more and more women joining the sport of surfing from a beginner level to advanced amateur status. I have learned so much and I humbly thank everyone who has guided me and taught me what I needed to learn at the time through this entire and ongoing process.
I have endured this present journey integrating my directing skills as a visionary in creating this unique community that has space for both of my worlds to be present and operate together. Directing to contribute to the betterment of humanity, Yoniswell Surf Collective; is a place for healing and empowering the soul through the sport of surfing. I have also learned and experienced that the more I heal and empower myself, and connect with the universe, my surfing skills improve, and my journey as a director expands and elevates to the next level. I am a better person and human because of it.
It is difficult to explain my experience to others simply because I have experienced a deep spiritual deconditioning and reprogramming of myself that is leading me to who I really am. It’s a personal and subjective journey. And I believe this path is initiating me to have the wisdom and guidance to lead others on their own path that looks different for all of us, and that is perfect as it is.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been a rewarding one. In my experience, gratitude and resilience are the greatest gifts when it comes to creating anything new, going against the grain, pursuing what others believe to be a pipe dream, experiencing loss and difficult situations in general, and so on. I believe it’s those individuals who see beyond the noise and create clarity around their vision amongst the noise and the struggles. We are all here to learn, and so when we are up against a struggle, and or a pattern, we are divinely being shown what to process, learn, and change. Trust me, I have been in the most trapped and darkest parts of my own wounds, staring right at my shadow feeling there’s no way out. But there is. And that’s the most beautiful part of the process.
Yoniswell Surf Collective is so new, we are just getting started. I have learned that through the struggles of my directing career and building Yoniswell that we gain the most value from the process and our success when we focus on what we have created versus what is not. That’s when gratitude and resilience come in because with both the good and bad or what we interpret as good and bad all work for us in the long run.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Yoniswell Surf Collective is a community of surfers on a mission to heal and empower their souls through the sport of surfing. We are primarily an all-women community, but we offer co-ed experiences as well. We offer surf lessons, group surf community events, and surf & yoga retreats. We view our space as a health and wellness space since we also offer yoga on the beach, meditation as a healing and daily practice, Reiki healing, Natal chart readings, Theta Healing, and Akashic Records readings.
We are unique because our approach is from a metaphysical healing and empowering approach with a traditional structure if you will. We have available surf lesson tutorials and guides via YouTube & on our website. We have a strength and nutrition guide designed for surf-inspired individuals. Yet, we also offer weekly energy updates where we integrate the cosmic forecast with our surfing journey. So, there is a metaphysical aspect to our community that invites our members to tap into our higher and energetic selves to be the best versions of ourselves in our daily lives.
Which then translates to our surfing skills, ability, and journey. Surfing and the ocean are healing modalities & guides. Our approach is both physical and metaphysical in a sense. Surfing, the ocean, and these other metaphysical healing modalities are a way for us to connect to the spirit. To our hearts.
We do offer an exclusive membership that includes a daily surf report unique to Surfline because ours is in simple terms. It also includes a Los Angeles surf break guide that tells the novice and experienced surfer where to go, when, with what board, and under what conditions. The membership also includes a discount on surf lessons & apparel. We pride ourselves in offering something for everyone!
My process and priorities in building this space are to nurture the community and provide what is needed. I also feel we are ahead of our time given that the cosmic forecast isn’t for everyone and well, what does that have to do with surfing? It has everything to do with surfing. We are all energy. The cosmic forecast is a higher perspective of looking at the weather forecast and even the surf report! The cosmos can tell you when a massive rainstorm, earthquake, and or hurricane is bound to happen. And I would predict that 8 out of 10 people will share that they began their surfing journey because they wanted to learn something new and that underneath it there was a deeper seeking of something bigger within them. Surfing is a healing modality. Yoniswell Surf Collective stands behind creating not just a surfing community and experience; but a space that allows one to self-sufficiently heal, empower themselves, and be themselves in a supportive space.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice is simple or perhaps complex in many ways. To listen and to follow your intuition. Meditating daily helps to build our relationship with our intuition if you feel disconnected from this advice. As does surfing. There is a bigger story going on outside of us that isn’t personal. The best thing we can do is accept we are here to learn, to do the inner work, and to do our part by contributing to humanity. Life is long, but on the contrary, it is too short not to pursue your passions and what you believe in that aligns with your natural state and brings you joy.
We are in a transitional phase where human beings are individuating, breaking free from victim consciousness, and giving our power away to others. This has gone on for centuries, and we are here in this lifetime to reclaim our light and our true selves. Our community is a space to begin your surfing journey, but it’s also an avenue into healing and empowerment on a soul level. If you are scared to begin your surfing journey, join Yoniswell Surf Collective. Face the fear and do it anyway.
