Exploring Life & Business with Javis Faletagaloa of The Faleis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Javis Faletagaloa

Javis , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Aloha! We are The Faleis, a Pacific Islander-owned floral business serving the South Bay. Originally from Hawaii, we moved to Southern California in 2019. Back home, we often made flower leis for loved ones to celebrate graduations, birthdays, baby showers, and weddings. We always joked about starting a lei business, but the idea became real in 2021 when we couldn’t find a lei maker for our own wedding in Redondo Beach. Our family had to bring them from Hawaii, and that’s when we saw the need for this service in the South Bay. So, in 2022, The Faleis was born!

What began as a focus on floral leis and lei po’o (floral crowns) has since expanded to include arrangements and funeral sprays. With our deep island roots, we strive to infuse the spirit of Aloha into everything we create. Our favorite part of this journey? Meeting clients, hearing their stories, and helping to make their special moments even more memorable. Mahalo!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We certainly faced a learning curve when navigating the business side of things, but we began by connecting with local lei artists and seeking mentorship. Along the way, we found incredible support within both the floral and Pacific Islander communities, which have a strong presence here in the South Bay.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Faleis. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Please tell us more about your business or organization. What should we know?

We are The Faleis, a Pacific Islander-owned floral business based in Southern California, specializing in handcrafted flower leis and lei po’o (floral crowns) for all of life’s special moments. From graduations and weddings to baby showers and birthdays, we create custom pieces that bring the spirit of Aloha to every celebration. In addition to leis, we also craft beautiful floral arrangements and funeral sprays.

What do you do, what do you specialize in / what are you known for?

We specialize in creating traditional Hawaiian leis, lei po’o, and floral arrangements that capture the beauty and essence of the islands. Our work is known for its attention to detail, vibrant colors, and the way we infuse the spirit of Aloha into each piece. We receive many orders for ti leaf leis, and it’s easy to see why. There’s something truly special about the elegance of a thick ti leaf lei. Its simplicity creates a stunning contrast when paired with a vibrant flower lei, making it a timeless favorite. What makes us unique is the cultural significance we bring to our creations, inspired by our deep connection to the islands.

What sets you apart from others?

What sets us apart is our deep-rooted Pacific Islander heritage, which we proudly carry into every piece we create. Our journey started from a need we personally experienced when we couldn’t find a lei maker for our wedding, and it grew into something much bigger. We’ve built a community of trust and love with our clients, and we treat every order as if it’s for our own family. The Faleis isn’t just a business; it’s a reflection of our values, traditions, and the connections we cherish.

What are you most proud brand-wise?

We’re most proud of how our brand has been embraced by the local community. From the South Bay’s Pacific Islander families to new clients discovering our work, the support has been overwhelming. We’ve not only created meaningful pieces for our clients but have also built lasting relationships along the way. We’re honored to have become a part of so many special celebrations and to continue sharing the beauty of Hawaiian culture with the wider community.

What do you want our readers to know about your brand, offerings, services, etc?

We want readers to know that our leis and floral arrangements are more than just decorations – they’re a symbol of love, respect, and connection. Each piece is handcrafted with care and intention, whether it’s a lei for a graduate, a lei po’o for a bride, or a funeral arrangement to honor a loved one. We take pride in personalizing each creation to fit the occasion. We offer local pickup, and we encourage clients to get their orders in early, especially during busy seasons like graduations and weddings. Our goal is to make every event a little more special with the beauty of island florals. Mahalo! 🌺
