Exploring Life & Business with Ella Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Bar.

Hi Ella, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am Los Angeles based fashion photographer born and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel. I’m happily married with two amazing children.

As far back as I can remember, I was always drawn to art. I always felt that I viewed things differently than others with an extremely high level of attention to detail.

My love for photography began on my 11th grade class trip where they handed out disposable film cameras… I immediately began directing the other girls in my class on where to stand and how to pose to upgrade the pictures they had just taken. I had no idea what I was doing or what would come out when the pictures developed, but once I saw the outcome I recognized what needed to be done to get the perfect shot.

Most people don’t know this, but when I was in school, I used to love to draw… I’d draw beautiful scenery and even sketches of celebrities I admired at the time.

After high school, I served in a classified unit of the Israeli Defense Force for two years, where I enjoyed every second of the experience. My service taught me independence and how to adapt and deal with complicated situations.

Once I completed my service, I was ready and excited to begin the journey of my life free of the framework of school and the military. I began working different jobs in order to save enough money and travel the world. My dream was to see and shoot spectacular views around the world… you know, the kind that you see on postcards! During my travel, I captured the details of my experiences through photography and learned how to shoot in different lighting and how to control the camera in challenging conditions. Through all my traveling, I realized I loved the U.S. and wanted to make it my permanent home. I then decided that I need to turn my hobby into a career in photography. I started out in Texas where I shot models for a modeling agency and quickly fell in love with the work. Four years into the work, I decided to move to Los Angeles in the hopes of shooting models in Hollywood.

Once I arrived to Los Angeles, I came to the realization that I had to build myself up again from scratch since my reputation lived in Texas. I hadn’t realized how large the city would be and wasn’t ready for how much competition I’d have. I worked endlessly to advertise my services and kept reminding myself that I am special and that it’s all about consistency and the desire to fulfill my dreams. The beginning was truly difficult, but after years of renting out studio spaces, the hard work began to pay off. I began receiving more clients and finally was able to have a studio of my own.

I truly believe that there is always a journey to arrive at your desired destination in life…

Currently, I’m working with various modeling agencies in Hollywood and shoot photography full-time in my Woodland Hills studio. I work with all kinds of magazines around the world and my work has landed on the cover of tens of magazines, on a billboard in Times Square, NY and in other famous articles.

I always continue to strive to improve and believe you never stop learning from yourself and from others around you.

I always say, “Life is like one long movie so produce the movie to be the outcome of your dreams!”

And yes, I met the husband of my dreams in Los Angeles as well, so moving out here was clever. 😉

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting my career, I found myself facing some setbacks and uncomfortable difficulties while trying to establish my path to photography. It wasn’t easy to get rejected and find the strength to be hopeful again, yet I kept on pursuing refusing to give up. There are moments, yes even now, where challenges arise, but I remind myself that this is all part of being an entrepreneur. It’s the consistency that keeps you going, realizing time and time again that I contain much more strength and endurance then I think.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in fashion, beauty and maternity photography. I shoot with a touch of fashion and magazine style. I love seeing my client’s reactions to their photographs, seeing themselves in a magazine-style photo always excites them. What sets me apart from the rest is my style, I work very hard to incorporate my client’s visions into the style I shoot. I am most proud of my Style Cruze magazine shoot with the beautiful Maddie Moore, whose cover photo in the magazine ended up on a Times Square Billboard! For my maternity shoots I offer many different backdrop and wardrobe options in my studio. I also work with the best makeup and hair stylists in the Valley who offers their services for my shoots.
