Exploring Life & Business with Dewayne Oneal of The Shop DTP

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dewayne Oneal.

Hi Dewayne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started at the business about a year after it opened. It was a rough start for me to find where i fit in but once we got our feet planted we were growing and growing. Working here has been the best teamwork experience ive ever had. Between creative direction and social media we figured it out and did it organically. as years passed some people quit and others joined but the one thing that never changed was the team work aspect. Once Alex Joined the team we elevated the store to new heights. We not only survived the Pandemic but thrived through. We knew then what we had done. we built not only a solid business but a very warm and solid community around us. without them we wouldnt be here. Forever grateful for our customers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The hardest thing for me was missing out on family and friends events because i had to work. where the store started we would get charged for being late or absent. So i gave up a lot of those events to make sure the business was up and running. now that we have our own brick and mortar we can close with no punishment to be with our loved ones.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Shop DTP?
So at THE SHOP we pride ourselves on everyone being accepted and included. Leave all your BS at the door. We specialize in vibes 1st. Im most proud of us having an idea, cooking it up and trying it out. We are a Video game store, Comicbook shop and trading card store. we buy sell and trade all of the listed things. My favorite part of the business is that i have so many friends that want to start business for themselves and we get to be the diving board for people wanting to start. We have RSVP clothing brand, Rosemoon scents and candles, Tea and Magic (Teas and crystals), Chris P Kitchen Chili Oil, Indoor record Vinyl Records, 3DoomLabs 3d printing. all of these are our friends that have space in the store to sell their works and crafts. Theres enough food in the world for us all to eat together.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to someone starting out is to keep going. Nothing good is instant. Cooked food is always better than Microwaved food. Its going to take some time but you have to practice patience. Ak questions and forever learn about what you want to grow and how you want it to grow. Sometimes people arent going to see your vision until its built. dont let that stop you from building
