Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Whitcas.
Hi Deborah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, with a love for storytelling, television, performing, and sports. From an early age, I knew I wanted a career that combined creativity, communication, and connecting with people. After earning my degree in Communications with a focus on Mass Media and Public Relations from Elizabethtown College, I moved into the television industry and spent more than 20 years building a career in unscripted television production.
Over the years, I worked my way up through nearly every level of production, eventually becoming a two-time Emmy Award-winning producer. I’ve had the opportunity to work on nationally syndicated and network television series across ABC, CBS, FOX, NBCUniversal, Amazon/MGM, HGTV, Discovery, and more, producing everything from court and talk shows to lifestyle and reality programming. Most recently, I served as Co-Executive Producer on nationally syndicated series including Crime Exposé with Nancy O’Dell and iCrime with Elizabeth Vargas.
A few years ago, I decided to combine my television background with another passion of mine — sports. That transition led me into sports journalism and digital content creation, where I now cover the Los Angeles Rams on-site, interview players and coaches, and write features for Sports Illustrated’s High School on SI. I also created and host The Blonde Blitz, a female-led NFL podcast and digital show that reaches more than 400,000 monthly viewers across Roku and Amazon Fire platforms.
Looking back, my career has always been about storytelling — whether that’s producing television, interviewing athletes, mentoring students, or creating content that connects with audiences in authentic ways. Every chapter has pushed me creatively and professionally, and I’m excited to continue evolving in both sports media and entertainment.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but I think that’s what shaped me the most. The entertainment industry can be incredibly competitive, unpredictable, and demanding. I spent years working long hours behind the scenes- sometimes sleeping under my desk, freelancing from project to project, constantly having to prove myself and adapt to new environments. There were times when shows ended unexpectedly, opportunities fell through, or I had to reinvent myself professionally to stay relevant in an industry that changes very fast.
One of the biggest challenges was transitioning from traditional television into sports media and digital content. I was stepping into a space that was heavily male-dominated and very different from the world of unscripted TV production that I had spent most of my career in. Starting ‘The Blonde Blitz’ was a leap of faith, and building something from the ground up came with a lot of trial and error, self-doubt, and learning as I went. But it also reminded me how important it is to bet on yourself.
I’ve also learned that success rarely happens in a straight line. Some of my greatest opportunities came during periods of uncertainty or transition. Looking back, the struggles taught me resilience, adaptability, and how to keep pushing forward even when things felt uncomfortable or unclear. My mantra is “Never Give Up” and I display those words on my desk (along with “boss”) to remind me daily. Those experiences ultimately helped me grow both personally and professionally.
We’ve been impressed with The Blonde Blitz, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
‘The Blonde Blitz’ is more than just a sports show or podcast — it’s a sports variety-style show and brand built around personality, storytelling, and creating a space where football feels fun, inclusive, and approachable. I created the platform as a female-led NFL show that blends sports analysis, interviews, entertainment, lifestyle, and pop culture in a way that feels authentic to who I am and the audience we’ve built.
What sets ‘The Blonde Blitz’ apart is that we don’t try to fit into the traditional sports media mold. The show was created by women, produced by women, and designed to be a welcoming space for everyone — especially women who love sports and want to be part of the conversation without feeling intimidated or talked down to. At the same time, we still bring credibility and real football knowledge to the table through player interviews, live event coverage, and insider access.
Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to grow into a platform that now reaches more than 400,000 monthly viewers across Roku and Amazon Fire through the Onstage+ Network and That Sports Podcast Network. We’ve covered major NFL events including the Super Bowl — with a booth at Radio Row — the NFL Draft, Combines, and training camps, while also interviewing current and former players, coaches, analysts, and rising prospects. Former NFL tight end Ben Troupe is also a regular contributor on the show, which adds another layer of authenticity and insight.
What I’m most proud of brand-wise is that ‘The Blonde Blitz’ has stayed true to its identity while continuing to grow. In a media world where so much content feels manufactured, I’ve always wanted the show to feel genuine, energetic, personality-driven, and entertaining — more like a conversation than a traditional sports broadcast. I’m proud that people often describe the brand as relatable, fun, passionate, and different from the typical “hot take” sports content online.
Beyond the football coverage, ‘The Blonde Blitz’ represents taking a chance on yourself. It started as an idea during a career transition and evolved into a growing multi-platform sports brand. I want readers to know that at its core, the brand is about community, confidence, storytelling, and proving there’s room for different voices in sports media.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I think one of the most important qualities behind my success has been staying true to myself and what I’m genuinely passionate about. In both television and sports media, it can be very easy to compare yourself to others or feel pressure to fit into a certain mold. Over time, I realized that the moments where I’ve been most successful were the moments where I leaned into who I actually am instead of trying to be what I thought the industry wanted.
Authenticity matters — especially in today’s media world. People connect with real passion, real energy, and real stories. Whether I’m producing a television show, covering the NFL, or hosting ‘The Blonde Blitz,’ I’ve always tried to bring my full personality, creativity, and heart into the work. I think audiences can feel that.
I also believe resilience has played a huge role in my journey. This industry comes with a lot of uncertainty and rejection, and there were many moments where giving up would have been easier. But I’ve always had a strong work ethic and a “Never Give Up” mindset. I truly believe that if you stay passionate, adaptable, and willing to keep evolving, opportunities eventually find you.
At the end of the day, I’m proud that I’ve built a career and brand that feels authentic to me. Success means a lot more when you don’t lose yourself along the way.
