Exploring Life & Business with Lisel Lewis of The LA Chiropractor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisel Lewis.

Hi Lisel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am passionate about helping you live and move better. Having played competitive tennis for 17 years in Southern California and earning a full scholarship from a division 1 university, I had plenty of injuries along the way. I thought medication, aches, and pains were just going to be a part of life. During my freshman year of college, I suddenly felt this intense, electrical, sharp pain in my left shoulder while studying on my computer. I couldn’t shake the pain, and it persisted for the next 8 years. When the shoulder pain first began, I went to our athletic trainer for help. They just told me “ice & stim, ice & stim”. This advice gave me no relief, so my next option was medication from the student health center. Medication that I would have been reliant on for the next eight years. Did it help me? No, it actually made me feel worse. Where are you supposed to go when you are supposed to be young and healthy, but you don’t feel young nor healthy? What are you supposed to do when you have pain, but no bones are broken and no ligaments are torn? Are you just a broken human? Do you need to be fixed? These were my exact same questions…

Thank goodness I found the solution. It is my goal to help you figure out the answer to your pain. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology, I thankfully found chiropractic and learned that getting chiropractic adjustments regularly would keep me happy and healthy – in a natural way. I earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic and now specialize in finding and adjusting subluxations. I offer a unique approach to sports injuries and chronic, faulty movement patterns. I love working with other people who are trying to live without the need of pain medications and would like to get back to feeling and performing their best.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Life is not smooth. Life is rough. It was nice to play a nice sport in a nice neighborhood with nice people, but that is not what taught me any lessons. Losing matches, being disciplined by very strict immigrant parents, being independent, prioritizing my tennis schedule as a child & acting like a fully functioning adult by age 10 was what showed me how strong and smart I was. Tennis is a ruthless sport that shows you how important it is to be mentally tough. I know I matured faster than most people because of my sport alone. Tennis is a one woman show; you are the only player on your team which means you are the only one to blame. The emotional intelligence required for a highly competitive tennis player is incredibly high, but I didn’t know what personal skills I needed back then. I only wish I would have known about the importance mindset and mental clarity played in my athletic career. Rebuilding my idea of value and worthiness has been difficult and is an ongoing learning experience. Finding out that there is value in rest and recovery was like learning a new language. Learning what is needed to prevent injuries and palliative care to sports injuries has been something I use to help myself, and in turn, helps me care for my patients on a greater level.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The LA Chiropractor?
At The LA Chiropractor, we specialize in correcting the problem. Pain and immobility doesn’t just happen overnight. Repetitive stress is what causes faulty movement patterns and pain. So, repetitive care is what fixes those problems. At The LA Chiropractor, we help you figure out where the problem is coming from, why it’s happening, and what must happen to fix it the problem. We are known for getting people on a corrective care plan so that we can consistently address any pain and injury on a set schedule. Most of my patients feel 50% better after just a few appointments and 100% better by the end of their care plan.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is feeling like all of the hard work I had experienced was paying off. I loved feeling like I did the work, so I was reaping the reward.
