Daily Inspiration: Meet Vian Borchert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vian Borchert.

Hi Vian , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in an art centered household, where I exhibited an early talent for the arts and a creative flair for painting, drawing, and storytelling through illustrative tales. Throughout my youth, my parents, both art lovers and collectors, encouraged me to pursue a career in the arts. I am a notable alumni of the Corcoran College of Art & Design at George Washington University. After college, I traveled to explore the world, discover myself, and find my bliss. Along the way, I collaborated with artists from different parts of the world in wonderful exhibitions that were exciting, inspiring, and instrumental in my artistic growth and personal journey. I later returned to the United States and eventually focused on becoming a full-time artist and art educator, inspiring others through my art, which is exhibited worldwide and widely covered by the press in publications such as the esteemed World Art News, Museum Week Magazine, and The Washington Post, as well as featured on magazine covers such as The Elite Success Magazine. I was recently named by MSN News as one of the “Top Women to Watch in 2026” and one of the “Top 10 Most Creative Artists in 2025”, and listed by Art Market Experts among the most investable artists of 2025/2026. My artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally in museums, galleries, and major art vernissages, including the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, Medinaceli DeArte Museo Contemporáneo in Spain, the SAM Museum in Pennsylvania, BANK Art Fair in Seoul, South Korea, Art3f International Contemporary Art Fair at Monaco’s prestigious Chapiteau de Fontvieille, the AVA Art Festival at Enokojima Art Centre in Osaka, Japan, the World Bank in New York City, the Venice Biennale, Art Basel Miami Beach, and the 1stDibs Design Center in New York City, as well as in embassies and numerous private collections. My artwork can be purchased through these world market-places: “Artsy” and “1stDibs”.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has been long: a journey of nearly 30 years. It has not always been smooth; there have been bumps and ups and downs, though nothing too horrendous. The many experiences along the way have brought me to where I am today. The struggles have varied over time, naturally changing with age and each stage of life. Every stage brings its own unpredictable and unexpected challenges, but also miraculous encounters and interesting people one meets in the art world and beyond, along with relationships that develop within this ever exciting and constantly evolving world.
The challenges of being an artist are quite different from those of other professions. For example, a doctor studies medicine, works in a hospital or establishes a practice, and gradually builds a solid career. As a painter, creating artwork and exhibiting does not necessarily translate into immense success. It is an ongoing, interactive, and highly intellectual exchange between me, the creator and thinker and the world and audiences who encounter my work. Thankfully, I have found people to be receptive to my art, and they continue to support and take an interest in my artistic production and evolution.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My artwork is rooted in an abstract expressionist style that emphasizes my love of nature, particularly skyscapes and seascapes rendered in my own signature abstract aesthetics, with an emphasis on blue and its many hues and tones to evoke peace, renewal, and rejuvenation. My specialty is painting on canvas, in sizes ranging from medium to large. My paintings are intended not only to be seen and enjoyed but also to be felt as an immersive artistic experience, inviting viewers to pause, contemplate, and engage with the beauty and intellectual dialogue that unfolds before them. I am known for my “visual poetry,” a term I invented decades ago to describe my artwork, as I am also a poet. Although painterly in nature, my work carries a lyrical quality, inviting viewers into my art world, which serves as a bridge between the visible and invisible, the conscious and subconscious. Creativity, I believe, resides in the subconscious, and art is the bridge that allows us to explore it. I am proud of my long career, my extensive artistic production, and my accomplishments, from showcasing my work in Times Square on Broadway in New York City to being invited to vernissages at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. I am especially proud of how, through my art-making and meditative methods, I have explored philosophical questions surrounding complex and mysterious subjects, from infinity to the creative layers of the subconscious mind, where much of our decision making originates. What sets me apart is my distinctive and innovative vision in creating abstract art, my deep inquiry into the mysteries of the universe, and my exploration of how art can connect the dots in our ongoing discovery of ourselves and the universe we inhabit.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Yes, throughout my life, I have encountered a number of people at different stages of my growth who have influenced both my artistic and personal journey. At an early age, my parents recognized my God given talent and encouraged me to pursue art as a career. My art teachers also recognized my gifts and helped me flourish through their genuine support, guidance, and words of encouragement. Later in adulthood, my husband and children became an important source of inspiration, always encouraging me to continue creating and to embrace my growth and evolution through my art-making. Gallerists have also played a significant role in my artistic development by inviting me to participate in numerous exhibitions with diverse themes. These opportunities have encouraged me to push boundaries, explore new creative possibilities, and bring to the canvas the artistic styles and ideas within me that were aching to get out and be seen.
