Daily Inspiration: Meet Turjemia – (Ms. Pretty Kurvz)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Turjemia – (Ms. Pretty Kurvz).

Hi Turjemia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up as a country town girl from the state of Arkansas, I was always intrigued by the city life so I decided to leave home to pursue my dreams and business goals. I started modeling in the year of 2018. As a Plus Size Fashion Model, I received a couple of sponsorships from brands like Curvy Sense. I went on to start my own fashion business. Pretty Kurvz Boutique was officially launched in 2021, although I came up with the idea back in 2018. My business was named after my social media name, “Pretty Kurvz.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not an easy ride at getting started in the fashion business, especially for Plus Sizes. There were not very many fashion designers who specialized in designing for larger sizes. I had to do plenty of research for myself. It took me a while to learn the ropes of becoming a CEO of a fashion boutique. However, I’m happy to say that I succeeded in making my vision come to life.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m multi-faceted with many talents. First, I am a writer with many titles. I’ve written in several genres. I’ve touched on topics as a fashion and lifestyle blogger, I’ve written a couple of fiction books, and I am also a poet. I’ve always had a gift with words and expressing myself. Not only do I write, I am also musically talented as a songwriter. I can rap and sing a little. I’ve recorded four or five songs and I’m looking forward to getting back to the studio to create new music. I love fashion and music. Both of those things coincided together is like magic. It blends well and it adds a little more zest to all of my business ventures. It helps me to create content and it allows me to be relatable to my audience. I have a session on my platform, it is called “Pretty Kurvz Poetry Korner.” It’s a voice of expression and I usually share a few of my open mic pieces on my social media pages. Most of my supporters love it when I’m open and willing to share personal experiences with them.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m a great chef at home. Not trying to toot my own horn, but I am the absolute BEST cook in my kitchen! I’m always the one who does the most cooking by preparing all of the main dishes at the fun social gatherings. I started cooking in my early twenties and my grandmother taught me a thing or two. I love introducing new recipes and feeding others is somewhat satisfying. I believe food is what keeps everyone together and it brings the greatest joy for many.
