Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Bell.
Tiffany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I bought my first DSLR in 2012, it was a Canon Rebel that included the body and lens for like $600 bucks! I had zero experience or knowledge of photography but at that moment it was a dark time in my life and I needed to find some light. The first time I shot I went to the Venice beach skatepark and got incredibly lucky with one of the most colorful and vibrant sunsets I have ever seen – even to this day.
There was something magical about that day that ignited this passion and obsession that I didn’t know even existed about photography. Getting gigs and clients wasn’t something that happened overnight but then one day I remember I had to turn down a shoot because I was booked and thought to myself, “how freakin rad!” I have worked with amazing companies like Dr.Martins, Land Rover, BODA skins and Sony. I have had my work published in British Vogue and other magazines, worked with incredible Chef’s, shot 2 different book covers and have traveled around the country to shoot for hotels, restaurants and even the Grand Canyon in a helicopter. I am grateful and proud of my journey and excited for whatever comes next!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
LA is a city built on creativity and ambition, it can be tough to stand out in such a crowded and competitive industry while trying to keep up with the technology and social media trends. I think the most challenging part for me is the fact that there is no “road.” However, bumpy roads aren’t always a bad thing, this road has taught me resilience and grit, the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and resourcefulness.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
One of the many aspects of photography that I love is how different each subject requires you to think, move, shoot and edit. Whether I am shooting food, cars, products or sunsets I am always trying to find different perspectives that require me to get out of my comfort zone a little bit. I guess I was never interested in “specializing” or labeling myself as a certain type of photographer for this reason.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Be patient, make time to shoot, make friends with other photographers and try not to let how many “likes” you get play a role in what you like to shoot. Hindsight is always 20/20, yes there are things I wish I would have done differently, but all of my choices were a reflection of what I thought was right. When it comes to creativity, making mistakes is part of the process, it means you are thinking for yourself and trying new things by making decisions that are true too oneself and one’s values.
