Today we’d like to introduce you to Teya Wild.
Hi Teya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Canada, as a kid my mom would register me for gymnastics and dance classes along with swimming lessons, cooking, drumming, etc. you name it I tried it. Dance was really my passion and something I really enjoyed doing. I was fortunate enough to have a mom who supported my acting career at a young age. My brother and I would be on set regularly for commercial jobs and tv shows. I grew up as a studio kid competing in styles like: (Jazz, tap, lyrical, contemp, musical theatre and hip hop) When I got into high school, I started to teach kids dance as a side job. It was when I graduated high school that I started to work as a professional on dance jobs with Disney. Nickelodeon and many major networks. After high school, I knew this was what I wanted to pursue. In my early twenties, I was casted as a top 20 contestant on a tv show called: So you think you can dance. It was from that show that I met and worked with some of the most leading choreographers in the industry. Following the show, I was heavily working on many film and tv shows and wanted to dive into getting my artist visa: 0-1 Visa. I applied for my first one six years ago and since then have reapplied three times and I am now on my third working visa which grants me access to work in both Canada and the United States as freely as I want. I currently reside in Los Angeles and have had wonderful opportunities to work on many award shows and live performances out here.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been a bumpy road! I am an honest person. From a shortage of money to the thousands of dollars it costs to apply for work visas every three years to miner injuries from the strength and endurance that it takes for dancers/athletes on auditions and jobs. To being away from my family for months at a time to pursue your wildest dreams. To Covid this past year affecting me being able to travel freely from United States to Canada as often as I would like. It all hasn’t been easy, But I have no regrets.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a versatile professional dancer/choreographer. I have been training and working since I was 10. I have mastered how to perform and have built a good reputation in the industry as a leading professional. As I have mostly danced under or for choreographers through my career, I am slowly transitioning into being the leading choreographer. I have taught from children to adults ages for over ten years and am extremely passionate about my work. I Have worked with many celebrities and have been fortunate enough to be able to travel while working. I am most proud of the recent movie I worked on both as a dancer and choreographer. It challenged me in a different way and was extremely fulfilling when seeing the final product released. This movie can be seen on Netflix: “Work It” What sets me apart is my professionalism and versatility and camera presence.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have soooo many incredible mentors and people I look up to and that have helped me along the way and in my career. My mom who’s my number one supporter, Kenny Ortega, Draico Johnson, Luther Brown, Aakomon Jones, Jamal Sims, Chris Scott and many more…
