Today we’d like to introduce you to Sienna George.
Hi Sienna, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a singer and bassist, who most recently have found a balance between being a freelance musician in California, as well as a touring musician for the Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection. I grew up playing classical music and received my undergrad and masters from Manhattan School of music in classical bass performance, and have since then expanded my repertoire to perform in genres such as jazz, country, rock, and more as a singer and bassist. Outside of performing as a musician, I am a yoga teacher.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have always had a positive and hopeful attitude, and believe even when they are setbacks, it is the road you were supposed to be on; whether it is to learn something, help someone, or take care, I welcome challenges to find what is truly meant for me. What matters most is taking care of your body and mind so you can show up as your genuine self in your work, art, and personal life. Sea sickness was an issue for me on the yacht, I was nauseous for the first 2 months and final 2 weeks during our Atlantic crossing. I practiced breath work and meditation to help manage my sea sickness, but you cant do much to avoid it. It makes me very grateful to be on land now!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a bassist and singer for the Ritz Carlton Yacht collection. For a few months at a time, I live on a mega yacht and perform 1-3 shows a day, 6 days a week. The performances include instrumentation from performing solo up to with 5 other members, always playing bass (or sometimes guitar) and singing either lead or back up vocals. Although I live and work at sea, most every day I go explore the islands and coasts where the ship is docked. We recently crossed the Atlantic Ocean, which took 2 weeks and I found myself quite sea sick most of the crossing, but had a grand time
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Feeling connected in body and mind to be able to show up best for those I love and to be honest in my work. As a musician, I work (performing at night) and find myself often on tour, which can be exhausting for the body or mind. Finding what makes you happy, healthy, and how to keep going when you don’t feel your best, or knowing when to rest, is so important to me. Even though my home often moves, I have learned how to feel at home in myself, and with the sweet people I share this life and experiences with.
