Today we’d like to introduce you to Savi Ro.
Savi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
All of this started because I just wanted to make friends. Specifically friends who enjoy the same fandom as me. I wanted friends that I could geek out with and go toy hunting with, I wanted community more than anything. I’m also a socially awkward person so I have a hard time approaching people and starting conversations. Being able to create wearable art was my solution to all of this. It was never meant to be a business that would takeoff and do conventions and collab with other creators and bring me so many opportunities that I never imagined I would get. I just wanted to make one friend because at the time I had none. It’s been about seven years this year, and I’m here because of luck because of hard work because of community because of the support I’ve received over the years. I’m grateful every day that I chose to do this endeavor because it has brought me so much that I can’t put into words.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road, every and any business always starts off with struggles you don’t always make back your investment immediately. Things tend to go wrong when you really need them to go right. You deal with a lot of imposter syndrome, sometimes an idea you think that’s going to be worth the investment doesn’t takeoff and you’re stuck dealing with that financial consequence. But I feel like most of the struggles I’ve dealt with, have been due to imposter syndrome more than anything and truthfully that’s still something that’s around, but I’ve just learned to keep pushing through. When in doubt just keep creating.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I design and doodle wearable art through enamel pins, stickers, & accessories. I am most known for my art inspired by a galaxy far far away. I’m most proud of my bags I’ve designed. I have a specific line of bags where you can display your pins, the bags are inspired by some of my favorite characters and thankfully those characters are very loved.
I’m not sure how to answer that because truthfully, I don’t think I’m anything special, I just like to create and doodle what I enjoy, and I believe that the right people will find you if they enjoy the same things that you do.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a socially awkward and anxious art kid. It took me a while to feel comfortable with myself and what I like. The one thing though that I knew I could do was create art. I didn’t really like talking growing up even when I was spoken to I didn’t know how to respond drawing was always my way to make friends and have people talk to me. Aside from art I always enjoyed music, mainly rock, alternative, LOVED watching music videos growing up. Honestly, anything that had a visual representation of art that was cool was usually what I focused on.
