Daily Inspiration: Meet Roberto Quezada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roberto Quezada.

Hi Roberto, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my tattoo journey in the California department of corrections. I took the wrong fork in the road as an adolescent, I hit rock bottom and managed to figure out that my natural talent as an artist was my way out of the life I chose . I attempted to work at multiple tattoo studios when I came home but no one gave me a chance because back then 2004 the tattoo industry was very closed off to outsiders and you had to do an apprenticeship to even be considered so I decided to create a tattoo studio dedicated to give opportunities to aspiring artist just like me desperately looking for a way out.
For about 6-8 months I tattooed out of my house then I managed to lease a location to begin my tattoo journey DEADMANS STUDIO was created. Fast forward to now , I own 2 tattoo studios with about 15 artists and rental properties. I have helped a lot of artists and got them started which now have careers and shops of their own. I’m a Pilar of the craft in my town well known and very sought after for tattoos.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not a smooth road, getting clients , starting from nothing , building a brand was no easy thing. Addiction / alcohol / drugs & how the past always tried to bring me down. Finding artists that stuck with me was also very hard , making ends meet was difficult , having a young daughter and picking her up & dropping her off over an hr and half away every weekend with a custody battle was a heavy weight on shoulders .i went back to prison at one point and had to try and manage my studio from inside the concrete walls, & almost lost it all. Present time now I am a full time caregiver to my partner (early-onset Alzheimer’s disease) and trying to juggle everything I have on my plate can definitely take a toll on you mentally, physically & emotionally.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a tattoo artist , business owner and investor . I specialize in the fine line realistic black and grey tattoo style . I’m known for my extreme detail and quality. I’m most proud of being known in town for helping many people become successful and being looked at by my daughters, family & peers as an inspiration & that anything worth having takes hard work & anything is possible as long as you go out there and get it. Plan , focus & execute.

What does success mean to you?
Success is being able to look in the mirror everyday and being happy with the person you are and or have become. success is being an inspiration to others and being a doorway to help others reach their dreams. Success is making your parents and everyone surprised and proud of how far you’ve came.
