Today we’d like to introduce you to Pablo Aguirre.
Hi Pablo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I came from Ecuador in 1984 to study music. I attended school at Dick Grove School of Music and entered KIP (Keyboard Instruction Program), CAP (Composing and arranging program), and once I ran out of money (and getting ready to go back home..) I won a scholarship to study Film scoring. Doors started to open in the advertising field. I did several jingles for different companies, I produced my first album in the late 80’s that opened more doors to several record companies, specially Warner Mexico, where I produced several albums for different artists. I also worked doing music for several soap operas for Televisa Mexico. I had the honor to meet two special people in my life that were my mentors: Juan Carlos Calderon (RIP) and Armando Manzanero (RIP). They were not only the two people I admired and wanted to meet someday while I lived in my country, but I had the privilege to work with them and learn from the best. In 2000 I met my wife Paulina Aguirre, an extremely talented singer/songwriter and started doing music together. Our first album was nominated for the Latin Grammys (2007) without expecting it, two years later we won the Latin Grammys for “best Christian album of the year”. Currently, I’m working in several music projects and an upcoming movie soundtrack next year.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Challenges? Overcoming myself, all my doubts and fears. The fact that I come from a small country (Ecuador) where music is not even a business (specially in the 80’s), I had all the odds against me. The language is always an obstacle. When I was studying music, I was also learning the language. Later on, when I started recording in famous studios with big musicians (it is totally intimidating, and they will let you know if you’re not prepared. Working with Orchestra was also a big challenge. I learned music at a time where there was no home computers, laptops or home studio. You had to write the music on paper (score) and listen to your work for the first time in front of the musicians, in the studio and with the client on your back.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
