Daily Inspiration: Meet Myever Akinleye

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myever Akinleye.

Myever, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and currently reside in LA. I started modeling when I was 14 years old, I got scouted by an agent in church and it’s been a roller coaster of beautiful experiences ever since. I have walked a lot of fashion shows, done a lot of campaign shoots, magazines features and every modeling related events you can think of. I moved to los angeles 5+ years ago, luckily for me I got signed to a modeling agency and that kicked off what I like to call phase two of my career as a model. During the course of this 5 years I decided to take up on my other burning passion of music, I ventured into being a DJ. I have always been intrigued by music and DJs since I was a kid so during the lockdown in march 2020 I decided to teach myself how to be a DJ and it’s been so much fun since then. Music is my vibe, I absolutely enjoy blending different genres to create unique and vibey sounds that spark joy and keep people moving. I love making people dance and be lively with music, it just brings me the most joy doing that. In 2022 I decided to go back to college and I got a degree in Communication Studies from west los Angeles College. This coupled with my experience in traveling abroad for modeling as a teenager has enhanced my ability to connect with diverse audiences. My deep love for music and passion for fashion all makes me who I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I like to believe that the ups and downs in one’s journey are vital and all of these things makes a person and builds character. So no it hasn’t been a smooth road but I’m eternally grateful for all the challenges and struggles along the way. Some struggles as a teenager traveling the world was missing out on family quality time, spending birthdays alone, missing key celebrations and just missing in action 8/10 times. Having to navigate life without my family being physically there was a lot. Lmao thank God for FaceTime and WhatsApp video calls, that has come in clutch multiple times.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a model and a self taught DJ. I specialize in fashion modeling, being a DJ, I specialize in all genres of music but my main and favorite to spin with my friends is Afrobeats and Amapiano. I’m known for being a cool kid lol, everything I do, I do it with an extra bit of love, playfulness, coolness and swag and I think that’s what sets me apart. I am most proud of how I’m able to make things I do look super fly, effortless and most importantly original, all the time.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family and friends matter to me the most. I believe so much in building and having a supportive community and these people bring me the most joy and happiness. I feel like a superhuman when I have my family and friends around. They just make the world a better and a more colorful place for me.
