Daily Inspiration: Meet Matthew Chavana & Paul Silva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Chavana & Paul Silva

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
They say birds of a feather stick together—in this case, that is primarily true. However, ours are ravens that reside within Halloweentown, flying in and around any and all haunted and horror related places. Our names are Matthew and Paul and together we are known as the Ghouldaddies. One of our goals in life is to visit as many spooky destinations as possible while keeping the spirit of Halloween alive year round.

We grew up in the same hometown of La Mirada—even attended the same middle school—and eventually linked together years later. As a first date, Paul surprised Matthew with a visit to the 17th Door (an extreme haunt that requires a signed waiver) and decided to film our experience. We uploaded the video on TikTok and the rest is history. Never in our wildest nightmares did we believe that our wholesome first date consisting of shock torture, creepy crawlers and obstacle courses would lead to the brand we have curated today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We are firm believers that any road one takes in life will consist of bumps, twists and turns. Our road was no exception. In fact, you can even say it was adjacent to Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disneyland; which we love, by the way. It took many efforts and countless retries to create a voice for ourselves. We were left on read, offered opportunities only to be further rejected, turned away in person and so forth. Admittedly, life is all about perception, and ultimately the rejection only fueled the fire to our flame to keep going and not give up. We cannot stress enough how important it is to appreciate the process of life and have as much fun as possible.

Amidst our new road to influencing and content creating, we were also brand new into a relationship together and still figuring that out along the way. The timing could not have been faster, almost too fast, and oftentimes we needed to slow down a second and ponder whether everything was working out or not. Communication is THE factor in any relationship; and thankfully ours was strong enough to endure the rollercoaster path we had been placed on.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Firstly, doing something you absolutely love is hardly work at all. The fact that we call any of this work is a nightmare come true. We are freelance content creators that specialize in anything and everything related to Horror and Halloween. The trick to our treat. Halloween and Horror just go hand in hand—zombie hands, if you will. We are known for event coverage, marketing films/magazines and paranormal investigating haunted places wherever we can.

Three of our proudest accomplishments (in no particular order) are:
1. Becoming ambassadors for Fangoria Magazine. A Horror magazine that has scared readers since 1979 and we personally have read since our pre-teen years.
2. Hosting the social media pages for Midsummer Scream. The biggest Halloween and Horror convention on the west coast.
3. We are both equally proud of working with Knott’s Scary Farm as ambassadors for their Halloween Haunt.

Every creator has their own unique flair and ours happens to dwell within the details. We’re sticklers for fine details, easter eggs and finding the most fitting song or audio to fit the vibe of our content. What sets us apart from others is our eagerness and excitement around what others may find scary. We find that many people appreciate living vicariously through our adventures as some places may be somewhere they would never step foot into.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Our city is Los Angeles, what’s not to love about LA?! Some of the biggest attributes to living in LA are the foods, the culture, the music, history and events. One thing we truly love about Los Angeles is how close we are to so many haunted landmarks. The tales and legends are timeless. With the Horror community growing, you may also notice there are more spooky restaurants and small businesses thriving here! The biggest downside to living in a big city is the traffic. Traffic is THE killer!
