Daily Inspiration: Meet L.Dre

Today we’d like to introduce you to L.Dre.

Hi L.Dre, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got into music at a young age, while everyone was playing sports I was making music. I got into Hip Hop via 50 cents when I was in middle school and that drove me to wanting to become a rapper. As an introvert, I ended up falling in love with the producing side of music a lot more towards the end of high school. I graduated college for music production in 2018 and that is when I took my music career extremely serious. I started posting beat videos on Instagram almost everyday for two years straight. During that process, I built a decent following, began selling beats online, & making music producer content on YouTube.

When TikTok came around, I had my first viral hit with my dance remix of Frank Ocean’s song Chanel. This remix started a dance trend on and garnered millions of views on Youtube. I kept making these viral dance and lofi remixes of popular songs while also releasing the instrumentals on streaming platforms. This led to me growing a huge following on Spotify. After those remixes began to settle, I started making Lofi Reworks of my favorite tv show/movie theme songs. In 2019, I went viral on Twitter for a video I made where I sampled sounds from Disneyland and made a lofi hip hop rework of Married Life from the movie UP. That video alone led to me getting to work with brands like Honda & Samsung. Early 2020, I released my most popular song ‘Steven Universe’ which is one of the most viral sounds on TikTok with over 10 million videos made to it. This song changed my life. It landed me my first Spotify editorial playlist, got me over 1 million monthly listeners and it even charted in some countries. Today it’s sitting at over 30 million streams on Spotify.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to success is never smooth. Everyone experiences their own struggles and for me, my main struggle was overcoming my own laziness. It was very tough at first for me to get home from my 9-5 job only to stay up all night and work again on my own stuff to then wake up early and repeat the process. There were plenty of times I wanted to give up for the night and just watch tv & sleep but I always told myself that if I just kept going and pushed through something had to work out eventually.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a music producer/artist born and raised in Los Angeles. I make primarily lofi hip hop music but I make all forms of chill instrumentals ranging from Lofi Hip Hop, Boom Bap, House, & R&B. My sound is inspired by producers like J Dilla & Kaytranada. I’m also very inspired by the music from my favorite cartoons/anime like Avatar the Last Airbender & Adventure Time.

I’d say I’m most known for my lofi remixes of my favorite cartoons and my YouTube channel where I teach producers & musicians how to also become successful musicians.

What sets me apart from others in my field is ability to make music from many nostalgic sources of inspiration as well as my overall branding. In the lofi hip hop space you don’t usually see many artists build as large of a community that I have. I have done everything I can to make sure I have a presence on every social media platform there is.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is when I was selected to take part of this leadership conference in Atlanta as part of Usher’s New Look organization. It was my first time on a plane and I stayed at a university for a week. I remember one of the days we got to take a tour of the Cartoon Network Studios and one of the people there gave me an Adventure Time DVD. Eventually, when I got home I watched that show so many times and that whole experience really stuck with me.
