Daily Inspiration: Meet Kiwan Kim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiwan Kim.

Hi Kiwan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started getting tattoos when I was about 20 years old. At first, I was an artist who did many genres. Now, I’m designing mandaras made of Korean materials. I didn’t think there were many tattoos made of Korean materials in the world, so I started designing them by mixing them with Mandara. I want to spread the Korean pattern all over the world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Life has not been easy for me. When I was 20 years old, I learned how to get a tattoo and felt that the more I got a tattoo, the more difficult it was. But the difficulty stimulated me more and became interested. Drawing on a human body and engraving it forever was attractive to me, so I became more detailed in my dream of becoming a tattoo artist. I recently got colon cancer. There was great despair, great fear. But I got hope because I had a tattoo. I worked harder because I wanted the world to know my tattoo painting even after I died. So I drew a lot of Korean mandaras in my style. I don’t want to give up my life. But I’m going to live every day thinking that every moment is the last.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My name is Kiwa and I live in Korea. I am a painter who draws mandala using Korean patterns. I am proud to get Korean tattoos on people all over the world. The difference from others is that they are good at neat lines and colors.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
When I was very young, it was the happiest memory for me to record Dragon Ball cartoons every day, stop them, draw pictures, and wait for my parents. Even now, I can’t forget the crab that my father bought at that time. I want to go back sometimes
