Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Swenson
Hi Kendall, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I didn’t intend to be a makeup artist as a career but I’ve been doing makeup most of my life. I used to give my Barbies “makeovers” when I was a child and then kind of fell into the business as an adult. I was a Film Studies major in college and doing makeup on set just seemed like the right creative fit for me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think getting your foot in the door is the hardest part as a young makeup artist- building your portfolio and credits and making connections with those who are in a position to hire you is essential. Our industry always evolves and different markets require different skills so I’ve definitely had to learn to be flexible and adaptable along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a makeup artist, I specialize in helping people look polished in front of the camera, using colors and techniques to enhance their individual features. I also teach women through personal consultations, speaking opportunities and virtual makeup lessons. I’m really proud to have created my online classes at Glam Bootcamp, so that all women can learn how to do their own makeup like a makeup artist.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Always be prepared- and that means to never stop learning and staying on top of current trends in our industry. You never know what creatives will ask you to do on the spot and it’s important to have lots of different skills to rely on and to always challenge yourself to learn new ones so that you will be at the top of your game.
