Daily Inspiration: Meet Kate Wang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Wang

Hi Kate, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my makeup journey while attending FIDM in San Francisco, working as a freelance event artist for Laura Mercier. Later, when I moved to Los Angeles, I continued freelancing, this time with Hourglass Cosmetics. Along the way, I also had the privilege of working with several beauty brands on the business side. However, I eventually returned to artistry because that’s where my true passion lies. It’s where I feel most fulfilled, and everything just flows naturally for me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has definitely not been smooth. There were many moments when I had to take a step back, reevaluate, and completely rethink the direction of my career.

As I mentioned, I spent several years working on the business side of the beauty industry. While it was a valuable experience, I often felt confined and unfulfilled. Ultimately, I made the decision to take the leap and return to makeup artistry. It was a scary move, especially financially, because it meant building my own client base and learning how to market myself from scratch.

But deep down, I knew I had to take that chance to truly be happy and to create in a space that inspired me. I wanted to wake up every day doing something I was passionate about, even if it meant taking a few steps back to reposition myself. That leap of faith was worth it, and I’m so grateful it’s paying off. I’m a firm believer in always trusting your instincts and following your passion—it makes all the difference.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a professional makeup artist, and soft glam is my specialty. I love creating fresh, polished looks that enhance my clients’ natural beauty and make them feel like the best version of themselves. My work ranges from beauty and fashion brand shoots to variety of events like red carpets, movie premieres, award shows, and photoshoots for all kinds of special occasions.

What I’m most proud of is the journey I’ve been on to get here. The challenges I’ve faced have shaped me, and I’m incredibly grateful for the resilience and determination that keep me pushing forward every day.

What really sets me apart is my authenticity. I’ve never been one to follow the crowd—I’ve always done things my own way. That individuality has allowed me to develop a style and approach that’s truly my own.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I truly believe we create our own “good luck” or destiny. It’s all about paving the path for ourselves. With a positive mindset, determination, and drive, you can get to where you want to be in life. When you put those pieces in place, the opportunities and “luck” you’re looking for will naturally follow.
