Daily Inspiration: Meet Kate Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Morris.

Hi Kate, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in the mountains of New Hampshire in a very musical family, so I was exposed to music and instruments from a young age. I remember singing and writing songs as a little girl, and throughout school I was heavily involved in music programs and show choir.
After high school, I moved to Los Angeles to attend fashion school, but I continued writing songs in my spare time. At the time, I never truly pursued music professionally because life moved quickly. I met my husband, started a family, and put my energy into raising my girls.
About a year and a half ago, something shifted in me. I realized I couldn’t ignore the pull toward music anymore. My daughters were a little older and in school, and for the first time I felt ready to fully pursue the passion that had been quietly following me my entire life.
What started as a nervous open mic quickly snowballed into a budding career in country music. Since then, I’ve learned so much, met incredibly talented people, and built friendships and connections that have truly changed my life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m naturally very optimistic, and I truly believe that when something doesn’t go the way I hoped or planned, it’s usually not a failure, it’s a redirection. Of course, there have been moments where I’ve felt let down or questioned whether I was enough, but whenever I let go of the disappointment and trust the process, opportunities that are even better than what I originally imagined seem to appear.
That being said, being a mom while pursuing a music career is definitely not for the faint of heart. This journey has taught me so much about managing time, people, and stress. There have been moments where I’m doing sound check before a show while simultaneously ordering pizza for my kids at home with the sitter. Life can feel fast, chaotic, and overwhelming at times, but I truly wouldn’t change it for anything.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a country artist and songwriter based in Southern California. My music blends traditional country storytelling with a modern gritty edge influenced by rock, pop and blues. My songs are a good mix of made-up stories, personal relationships, motherhood and small-town roots.
I think what sets me apart from other artists is that I am fully pursuing music in a chapter of my life that is not traditionally a starting point. I’m building this career while also being a mom and a wife. I’m not chasing an image or trying to fit into a mold. My focus is sharing my music and stories that entertain and connect with people.
I’ve been particularly proud of how this journey has grown from a single open mic into live performances and single releases at a quick pace. When things feel aligned, life takes over in the best way. It’s a rewarding feeling when someone comments on how much they’ve connected with my music after a show. One of the biggest things I’m proud of is the example I am showing my daughters to go after what lights their soul. And I love that they get to see how supportive their father is with my music as well. They are learning what it is to have a partner who is supportive of your dreams. My children and my husband are so proud of me and that makes this all so much sweeter.
I’m also grateful and proud of the community I’ve built along the way. Music has introduced me to talented musicians, creatives, and supporters who have encouraged me to keep going and continue growing as an artist.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I am big on what you take in during the day affects your mood and outlook on life. If I am on social media for leisure I will always watch inspirational or informational reels. I enjoy listening to the “And the writer is…” podcast to hear other songwriters stories and perspectives. I’m also a sucker for any podcast involving neuroscience and law of attraction.
