Today we’d like to introduce you to Jovon Dangerfield.
Hi Jovon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began from my early exposure to experiencing setbacks and trauma as a youth with minimal support, having access to drugs, being around gangs, and struggling with maladaptive coping mechanisms.
I later reconnected with my higher power and with gracious mentors which inspired me to be the change I wanted to see. I began to heal and change my pain into purpose and using my experience to inspire others.
These things have culminated into my involvement into non-profit and consultant work to advocate for change in the community, through youth work, inspiring others through public speaking, music creation, hosting engagements, community activism, and through my work as a radio personality. using culture, community and art to inspire others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My path has been marked by many challenges; my progress has not been straightforward. There have been many challenges along the way such as managing varying levels of staff while accepting the modern advantages and challenges of hyper individualism that can detract from team continuity but at the same time working to understand the blessing of different personalities and skillsets that comes along with various team collaborations.
Also working with others, accepting diversity in collaborations, attaining sponsorships and funding and staying organized. The grind of independently funding projects and missions has been hard, as well as generating community and city engagement along with working with public servants, officers and negotiating deals.
Creatively, strategically and fiscally my process to creating albums has also been a struggle because it takes much longer being that I am creating writing and producing but also responsible for promotions, roll outs, press runs, and tours along with the tedious details of approving mastering and mixing and general outreach for the project once it is finished.
It can also be a struggle consulting and partnering with certain educational systems while attempting to retain a sense of relevance and modernism while wrestling with persistent and often antiquated approaches that are perpetuated through educational systems. This is challenging because both sides have things they need to accomplish for funding purposes but often those things don’t reach the target audience which is the students. We work through this by remaining humble, gracious and apt to sacrifice to achieve the greater good and measure success through incremental growth rather than complete overhaul. The cherry the top of all this is while doing all of this I am often fighting through my own complex personal challenges and emotional shifts(which is the case with us all).In late 2025, I’ve experienced the loss of my son due to a drunk driver happening smack dab in the middle of doing community work and creating my album, Inspire 2, while simultaneously dealing with the trauma from others’ losses such as deaths, poverty, and other advocacy issues. My work also presents persistent challenges from organizing travel, flights, managing dates, to staying organized, and staying on the cutting edge of ideas and presentations and appraches. I have more help now than I’ve ever had but I must be strategic with the allocation of such work and the bigger it gets the more help I need.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known for being a creative executive, artist, strategic consultant/action planner, public speaker and media personality/MC specializing in creative outreach,. I am also known for producing, music, documentaries, podcasts and radio content. The newest project is a work of story telling and inspiration, aptly named Inspire 2, dropping on all digital platforms 1/15/26.
I am also known for using creative endeavors as a means to connect with different demographics and generating synergy amongst businesses, private and public sectors, and general communities to maximize reach through independent means. Finding ways to connect different demographics that normally do not coincide with one another.
I am most proud of the fact that we do not sell out on our values in order to get further in business and to broaden reach. I am also proud of creatively interacting with culture without bowing to the most degrading aspects of current popular culture such as prevalent in hip hop, such as glorifying gang culture, murder. misogyny, hatred, and lack of empathy.
Lastly, the albums are the creative sum of all of our efforts to reach demographics of people that would normally not be interested in issues that directly affects communities, activism, advocacy etc.
How do you define success?
Success to me is being able to stimulate change and progress, to inspire others, and encourage positive transformation. Success is also being able to provide resources, jobs and other measurable outcomes, and expansion. Things like community bonding, team organizing, recognizing gifts in up and comers and helping youth transform to become the greatest version of themselves are the barometers by which I define success. Lastly of course, we need the funds lol
