Daily Inspiration: Meet Joshua Bonzo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Bonzo.

Hi Joshua, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well, I was inspired by my sisters in the early 2000s before Mc. Donalds offered Wifi. I’m talking 2003 when myspace came out. My older sisters would wave these small cameras in their faces and make these “day in the life” vlogs and post them on Youtube. I would watch their videos on youtube and I thought to myself, “I could make better videos than that.” So I would take their cameras when they’re not looking and make my own. I went on to do different hobbies growing up such as skateboarding and breakdancing but the one that stuck with me through thick and thin was the camera.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I was much younger, it was never a dull moment because I wasn’t worried about money or bills but now that I’m 26 and I’m trying to eat to survive, it become really challenging. For example, I work a full-time job, a part-time, and do gigs and I still live check to check. That’s some shit. It’s a love and hate relationship, I’m trying to keep the fire burning even when it’s cold.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Professionally, I started with photography in high school but I always knew I wanted to do videos. So in college, I started freelancing videos. A few free gigs led to a ton of paid gigs like music videos, weddings, corporate shoots, you know, anything that needed visuals. Out of all of those trades, I stuck with music videos because it satisfied me creatively.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Your real friends will show up when you need them the most.
