Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Macias.
Hi Jose, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and raised in Vail, Colorado; I had always been driven by ambition and dreams that, at the time, seemed to be unrealistic. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in finance from Metropolitan State University of Denver, I started feeling like something was missing. It wasn’t until I completed an acting workshop at Babcock Studios that I discovered that the missing piece was my passion for acting. So, I packed up my bags, said goodbye to the 9-to-5 grind, and headed out to Los Angeles to chase my dreams. I enrolled at New York Film Academy, where I was able to complete the 1-year acting for film conservatory program. Aside from getting the hands-on experience in class, I was able to participate in multiple student films that allowed me to put my acting skills to practice.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has been a rollercoaster of challenges that have shaped me into the person I am today. From the moment I stepped foot in LA, I knew I was in for a ride. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is the fierce competition. LA is invaded with talent, and breaking through the noise to land auditions and roles can feel like an uphill battle. Balancing auditions, classes, and the cost of living in this city is not easy. But every odd job and side gig I’ve taken on has been a steppingstone, bringing me closer to my goals. Although rejections can be a tough pill to swallow, every “no” I’ve received has only fueled my determination to prove myself in this industry. Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. The highs, the lows, the auditions, the callbacks. It’s all part of the thrill.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most proud of summoning the courage to break free from my comfort zone, leaving home, and trying to make it on my own in pursuit of my dreams of acting, especially considering that being extremely shy was a significant challenge. I was able to embrace it, knowing that pursuing my passion was worth every ounce of discomfort. Stepping in front of the camera confirmed my determination and willingness to push beyond boundaries. And now, I continue to grow and evolve as an actor with a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing that I had the courage to chase my dreams against all odds.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m constantly looking to expand my skills and experiences as an actor. In the future, I aspire to take on more challenging roles that push me out of my comfort zone even further. This means actively seeking out more auditions and embracing each opportunity as a chance to grow and showcase my talent. Additionally, I’m open to exploring modeling possibilities and commercial opportunities that may come my way, as they can provide valuable exposure and diversify my portfolio.
