Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Heath
Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born & raised in the tiny mountain town of Weaverville, North Carolina (not so tiny anymore-heard we just got a Taco Bell!). I had the most wonderful childhood then moved to the Carolina coast for college (shout out to UNCW, GO SEAHAWKS). I thank my lucky stars I made this decision because this is where it happened. This is where I fell in love with the film industry. Thank you SE film community for welcoming and encouraging me. After many years working in the SE area, I soon realized I wanted to be where the possibilities were infinite… and boom. I landed in Los Angeles. Here is where I feel like my story really started… here is where my dreams are coming true.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. HAH. Does anyone answer this with a yes? I think everyone in the creative arts has a bumpy ride in one way or another. Finding purpose and motivation when you’re repeatedly knocked down is probably the hardest thing to get used to. You have to constantly remind yourself there are people out there with the job you want. The possibility is there. You just have to commit to the journey and find it. You have to work extremely hard and know that one day it’ll all be worth the effort.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At heart, I will forever be a writer. I always have a story to tell. Before I started writing film and tv, I wanted to work for a major lifestyle magazine and before that I wanted to write books and before that I was constantly writing short stories. It wasn’t until I started creating my own projects that I fell a little more into producing as well. Somehow as I’ve aged, I’ve became very organized so I really enjoy keeping the ship afloat. I also enjoy being in charge of how something gets made. I like having my creative say while sometimes getting to bring another person’s work to life. I would say my biggest strength is working with others. I love to read other’s work and I love to collaborate. I’ve recently started offering my services in deck building and pitch package creation. I’m very proud of the eye I’ve developed after nearly a decade in the business. I think I’m very open to the possibility of what something can be. I don’t immediately shut anything down. I think that sets me apart from others.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’ve spent a chunk of time finally creating a website! Check it out! 🙂
