Daily Inspiration: Meet Jessica Boyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Boyer

Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I literally say this in job interviews because it’s my truth: I’ve had a meta page since it was called “the Facebook” and could only be accessed with a .edu email address. In undergrad, I got the opportunity to be the student homecoming chair and I decided to put the activities on Facebook verses in addition to the traditional pamphlet. Attendance exploded, and something clicked for me at that moment. I realized that social media was going to be a powerful thing, and I wanted to be part of that momentum.

That momentum has taken me from an event planner to a political organizer to the present day where I now make digital and social media content for a living. So I’m really glad I stuck to my vision.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy. Social Media and Digital Content production weren’t jobs 10 years ago, and even now it’s hard to get people on board with the amount of work social media requires. Almost everyone has some social media presence, and when something is so prevalent it can sometimes seem trivial. Many people still think it’s an intern or entry-level job. My family still doesn’t quite understand. Many feel that I’m surfing the internet all day. But this work is so much more.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Digital and Social Media Content Producer. I create BTS content for tv shows and events and branded content for influencers and talent. I’m mostly known as a Social Media Producer since I’ve done that work for the longest, but overall digital content production is my bag. Most people think social media is about curating a perfect image, or setting someone up to be ridiculed. Still, my approach is using social media to let your authentic self shine through by connecting with the trends and topics that move you. I think this philosophy makes me easy to work with, so I end up getting some fun things done with amazing people.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was pretty outgoing. My way of coping with my nerves was to talk so I got a lot of notes for talking too much in class. I also made a ton of friends. My grandparents raised me and my grandmother was a Magnet School Coordinator. So I spent much time performing, watching or helping plan for a school program or show. I played piano, the flute, and sang in a show choir that traveled and performed in Europe. Since my schedule was so busy, I LOVED to watch television as a way to wind down. I would watch everything from cartoons to the Biography Channel if it meant I could watch TV. Today, that hobby serves me because I have DEEP knowledge of pop culture references which is invaluable in social media. I sometimes feel like everything I did and saw my Grandmother do prepared me in many ways to be successful. So I’m really grateful to do what I do now.
