Daily Inspiration: Meet Jay Plush

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Plush

Hi Jay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been fascinated with music. Growing up hip-hop, I started off playing the drums in the drill team as a youth and writing 8-bar verses to recite with my friends. Musically I’ve grown tremendously from when I first started. I’m confident lyrically and have great stage presence when performing. I’ve stayed dedicated to my craft over the years, working with some of the best producers in L.A. to taylor a sound that’s unique and up lifting. As a part of my Rise and Grind regimen I’m constantly writing new material, going to the studio to record and performing at cyphers, concerts, festivals and local shows. I also wrote a book entitled “It’s Funny How Life…Inspirational Quotes Infused With Wisdom and Wit: Volume 1, available on Amazon.com. I’ll be dropping a new hip-hop project at the beginning of the new year so be on the look out for it. I also have an eyelash and cosmetics company that are in the works.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say some of the struggles have included finding my voice and staying true to myself and my principles along the way. When I first started off some of my associates always wanted me to try to sound like somebody else and that just didn’t work for me. My musical style has no doubt been influenced by many of the great hip-hop musicians who paved the way but I have a unique, versatile flow that many people love and I embrace.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in rap music. I am known for my laidback flow and catchy hooks. I am most proud of being able to work with other celebrity artists such as Nipsey Hussle, Boosie BadAzz, Kurupt, Dae One, Sugafree and Luniz to name a few. Something that sets me apart from others and makes people want to work with me is that I’m punctual, charismatic and about my business. Whatever the tasks at hand are whether it’s a verse or a performance I stand and deliver.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
You have to surround yourself with people who support your vision.
