Today we’d like to introduce you to Diship Garg.
Hi Diship, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been a blend of tradition, resilience, and evolution across continents.
I was born on August 30, 1996, in Ghaziabad, India, into a family where music was more than just an art—it was a spiritual experience. I began singing devotional songs at the age of seven, nurtured by my kindergarten teacher Ms. Preeti and mentored by Indian legends like Bhajan Samrat Anup Jalota and Ravindra Jain. By age 12, I was recognized as India’s Youngest Bhajan Singer by the India Book of Records. That early acclaim opened doors to national stages and even an international performance in Colombo in 2009, invited by the Government of Sri Lanka and supported by India’s current Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh.
Along the way, I was humbled to receive honors such as the Agra Vibhushan Award from then Vice President of India, Shri Hamid Ansari, and the Meri Dilli Award from former Delhi Chief Minister, Smt. Sheila Dikshit—recognitions that reinforced my belief in music as a universal language of healing and connection.
My professional foundation was built during a decade-long association with T-Series, where I released seven devotional and Urdu albums including Shyam Ji Ka SMS and Zindagi Ek Kiraye Ka Ghar Hai. Yet my curiosity extended beyond performance—I wanted to understand the full spectrum of music: artistically, technologically, and economically. That led me to pursue multiple advanced degrees, including a Master’s in Indian Classical Vocal, a Master’s in Economics, a Master’s in Public Policy from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and ultimately a Master’s in Music Business (Music Technology) from New York University.
NYU was a transformative chapter—both creatively and academically. I earned the Steinhardt Alumni Scholarship, the Dean Mary Brabeck Scholarship, and an award for Outstanding Contribution to the Graduate Music Business Program. I produced flagship events like the Benny Blanco gathering, contributed to the Musonomics podcast, led research at the NYU Create Lab integrating music with VR, and served as Concert Recordist for over 50 live performances.
Professionally, I’ve had the privilege of working across many domains—from producing chart-topping tracks at Twelve Strings Productions in Bombay to directing devotional reality shows for Indian TV. In the U.S., I contributed to artist campaigns at AEG Presents–TMWRK Management for acts like Major Lazer and Jai Paul, and managed operations for over 50 artists at Adhyâropa Records LLC, developing digital strategy and global release campaigns.
In 2025, I released Rooh—a deeply personal single that embodies the spiritual tension between the soul’s longing and the mind’s hesitation. It was an emotional, introspective project that reminded me why I started this journey: to create music that moves people from within.
Beyond the studio, I authored Music – The Mirror of the Soul, a book that explores music’s emotional, spiritual, and cultural impact—reflecting my lifelong belief that sound is not just art, but energy.
Today, as I continue consulting and creating in New York, I’m also building something even more personal—a transformative wellness sanctuary in New Delhi. This space, envisioned as a modern temple of renewal, will unite ancient Indian wisdom with sensory healing through sound, aroma, and light. Picture floating sound bath beds, automated foot soak cabins, signature spiritual fragrances, and immersive lighting—all designed to gently shift the guest into a deep state of balance and harmony. It’s more than a spa; it’s a sacred space for energetic reset. A place where people don’t just rest—they transform.
My mission remains rooted in the same truth I’ve carried since childhood: to use sound as a force for healing, connection, and cultural transcendence. Whether through a song, a scent, or a sanctuary, I aim to inspire people to come home to themselves.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been anything but smooth—but it’s been profoundly meaningful.
Pursuing a life in music is beautiful, but it’s also incredibly challenging—especially when you come from a place where stability is prized, and the arts aren’t always seen as a “secure” path. There were years when I had nothing but belief. I watched many of my peers take corporate jobs, earn steady paychecks, and seemingly move ahead in life while I stayed up late in dim studios, unsure of what the next month would look like. Those moments made me question everything. I asked myself: Was choosing music a mistake? Would I have been happier doing something easier, safer, more conventional?
But every time I stood at that crossroads, my soul reminded me why I started. Music is not just what I do—it’s who I am. And that tug-of-war between doubt and purpose, between practicality and passion, is what inspired Rooh.
“Rooh is a song straight from my heart, capturing the eternal conflict between the soul and the mind. It reflects a deeply personal journey—one of pursuing a path that fills my soul with joy despite the struggles it brings. Music has been my lifelong calling, and though there were moments when my mind questioned whether I should choose another direction, my soul always led me back to where I belong.”
The process of creating Rooh was intensely emotional and immersive. I poured all my energy into weaving melodies and lyrics that reflect that inner dialogue. From composition to production, every element was crafted to evoke a connection that feels both deeply personal and universally human. I wanted listeners to feel seen in their own moments of uncertainty and reminded that staying true to what makes you come alive is always worth it.
Beyond the emotional struggle, there were practical hurdles too. As an independent artist navigating different countries, industries, and expectations, I had to learn not only how to create but how to survive—how to build my own platforms, manage finances, and open doors where none existed. I pursued four master’s degrees not only out of passion but because I knew I needed to understand music from every angle—creatively, economically, and politically—if I wanted to make a lasting impact.
And yet, through every challenge, I’ve come back stronger. Because even when the path isn’t easy, it’s mine—and that makes it meaningful.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At the heart of everything I do is a deep belief in the power of sound to heal, connect, and transform.
I’m a singer, composer, music director, sound engineer, author, and consultant working across genres and borders. My work lives at the intersection of Indian classical traditions and modern innovation—blending ancient soundscapes with contemporary aesthetics to create immersive emotional experiences. Whether I’m producing a track, recording a concert, writing a book, or building artist campaigns, I approach each project with one central question: How can this move people at the soul level?
I specialize in creating music that transcends boundaries—culturally, spiritually, and sonically. From devotional and soulful compositions to electronic, ambient, and experimental productions, my catalog reflects over 15 years of exploration across genres. I’ve released music with T-Series, performed internationally, worked with 50+ artists at Adhyâropa Records, and helped shape artist campaigns at AEG Presents–TMWRK Management for acts like Major Lazer and Jai Paul.
I’m also proud of my work behind the scenes—managing artist operations, analyzing audience trends, producing immersive content, and bridging the gap between tradition and technology. At NYU, I contributed to groundbreaking VR music projects, served as a Concert Recordist for over 50 shows, and co-produced the Musonomics podcast, which explored key issues in the global music industry.
What I’m most proud of, though, is staying true to my voice. My single Rooh—which explores the conflict between the soul and the mind—was a defining moment for me. It reminded me that the best art comes when you allow yourself to be vulnerable, honest, and unafraid to speak your truth.
What sets me apart is my versatility and lived experience. I’m someone who has performed in temples and on international stages, studied both classical raagas and streaming algorithms, and written a book (Music – The Mirror of the Soul) while producing Billboard-charting songs. I’m a bridge—between East and West, analog and digital, the sacred and the modern.
And now, I’m taking that vision even further by building a one-of-a-kind wellness sanctuary in New Delhi—where sound, scent, and light come together to create a deeply immersive healing experience. It’s the physical manifestation of everything I stand for: thoughtful design, soulful intention, and holistic transformation through the power of art.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that your journey is yours alone—and in your toughest moments, very few will stand beside you.
When you’re struggling, when you’re unknown, and when you’re chasing a dream that doesn’t follow a traditional path—people often don’t understand. Many ridiculed my choices. Some questioned why I didn’t take a more “stable” route. There were days when I felt isolated, watching my peers build steady lives and incomes while I poured everything I had into a vision that hadn’t yet taken shape.
But through all of that, my parents and my siblings stood by me. They believed in me when others didn’t, and their faith gave me strength to keep going. I’ve learned that in your struggle, it’s your inner circle—your family, your roots—who truly show up. The rest often stay silent.
Ironically, once success starts to show, everything changes. The same people who doubted you suddenly want to connect, collaborate, or say, “I know him—he worked hard, I’ve seen his journey.” And while that recognition is appreciated, it’s a reminder of how alone the climb can be—and how crucial it is to stay grounded in who you are and why you started.
This journey has taught me resilience, humility, and self-belief. I’ve learned to trust my intuition over external validation, to protect my energy, and to never let temporary doubt cloud a lifelong purpose. You can’t control who supports you, but you can always control how deeply you believe in yourself.
And that’s what Rooh represents for me—an anthem of inner conflict, and ultimately, surrender to what truly makes you feel alive. It’s a musical reminder that while the road may be lonely at times, it’s still worth walking—especially when it’s your soul leading the way.
