Today we’d like to introduce you to Dina Kabdolla.
Hi Dina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Since the age of ten, I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer. Born in Kazakhstan and now based in Los Angeles, I came to the U.S. searching for my artistic voice. I studied at Cambridge University, blending my love of art and science, but it was New York City that shaped my artistic identity — where texture, form, and storytelling became central to my work.
I started out working in fabric stores and freelancing for tailoring studios, absorbing everything hands-on. In 2015, I launched AYA by DK, a brand inspired by nature’s curves and the geometry of the solar system. My collections speak to identity, sustainability, and transformation — blending fashion, art, and activism.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Wearing many hats — from designer and creative to manager, organizer, HR, and business operator — is incredibly challenging. One thing I’m still learning is how to approach tasks with more structure and embrace micromanagement when needed to ensure things run smoothly
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Yes, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many celebrities such as Bebe Rexha , Maya, Paris Hilton and many more over the years. I’m not just a fashion designer — I’m also an artist. This year, I fully launched my signature collection, Your Art Has Been Served. I work closely with celebrities, creating everything from custom-made pieces and full seasonal runway collections to styling entire crews on movie sets and music videos. My work also includes transforming recycled packaging into fine art and repurposing materials into sustainable fashion. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved so far — but there’s still so much more to create and accomplish.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My daughter, my parents, and my close friends are my biggest sources of strength. I’ve always had mentors, life coaches, and personal guides along the way. I’m committed to constant growth — physically, mentally, and spiritually — and I approach my life and work with strong discipline and work ethic.
