Daily Inspiration: Meet Diego Loza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Loza

Hi Diego, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started drawing when I was a little kid, I was allways inmersed in my notebook drawing my favorites characters from the cartoons, anime and comics. At the age of twelve (1997) i met graffiti and i started to practice it daily, after some years, I started to feel stucked in my drawing and on my mindset as a drawer, so I started to study fine arts by myself painting canvases in my home (2002) .After maybe 5 years in seclusion doing that, I felt the need to Paint on the streets again, but this time applying all the new skills i got, so I started to paint murals in 2007-2008. Again after some years on that I felt the need to learn new different stuff, so I finish my highschool quick and I got info the fine arts carreer at one of the best art school in my city (2011). I didnt like it jajaja… I finish my carreer, but I felt stucked again, and I didnt like to much the fine art scene , so I started to learn how to tattoo (2015) and it’s my main job moneywise now. Since 2018 I started to write rhymes , so I started to make music too, I do all this things now, and im allways learning about them. I love to travel and paint or tattoo or make music with new colleagues and friends arround the world. Im so grateful for my life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ufff, lots… my familia for example, when I started painting everyday and I started to verbalize that I wanted to live doing art, my parents where angry and reluctant, so they kick me out their home when I was 15. I never stopped doing what I love, but living by myself was hard so I started to consume alcohol and coke and crack with the people I was living, some old dudes addicted to party jsjsjs, so, I walked that horrible Path of alcoholism and crack, I never stopped drawing and painting tough, so after some years of that , my family saw the way I was living and how I was stubborn making art everyday, so they welcomed me again in their home again , and I went back, I rehab myself (hard one), I stop drinking and consume, and I really focused on learn how to paint canvases with any kind of media, I spend 5 to 6 years doing that. Before I returned to paint on the streets. That is one of the obstacles I had to pass to live doing art now. I love it!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I mainly draw, i would say it’s the core of what i do, drawing is the place that my mind and my soul has find to understand the phenomenon of being alive as a human, I think I specialize in painting technicwise, but I think the language I developed with myself, my memory and feelings, it’s what makes my work mine. Im known for being a painter, for doing graffiti with my crew (APC) for tattooing and for singing and rapping mostly. I think people know me for doing art for long time. Im proud of doing what I love every single day as a way of living and As a lifestyle, im proud of making bridges with people trough my art, to have time still for continúe (I hope). I dont know what sets me appart from others, cause i think we are all unique as every piece of art we all produce, i just live being myself trying to be better day by day.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
There is no better mentor Than error! Just do it, jump to learn what you feel is calling you, it will suck the first time, cause your own expectation, but then continúe and continue doing it. Them the mentors will appear in the right time. The same with networking, you will find what fits you in that matter to make it work, but I think a good advice is, dont care too much about it, do it first because you love it and enjoy it. People conect and buy from people that is having a good time doing their craft, cause the quality gets better on that frecuency , and because of it you find your own way to connect with abundance itself.
