Daily Inspiration: Meet Crismar Chacín-Ruiz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crismar Chacín-Ruiz.

Crismar Chacín-Ruiz

Hi Crismar, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Proudly born and raised in La Guaira, Venezuela. I moved to Los Angeles at age 18 to go to my dream school- The American Academy of Dramatic Arts LA- where I spent two years in their acting conservatory program. When I graduated I received their “Michael Thoma Award”, which ‘the Academy gives the student whom, in the opinion of the faculty, has demonstrated the most growth during their two years of training’. It was a surprise and a great honor. After graduating is when I think my LA life really started; working, auditioning, meeting people, moving around town… and that got me to my talent agency and all of the amazing commercial projects I have done with them as my team.
This year, I made it to my first major voice over roles: Lola from “Malditos” on HBO Max, and Lupe from “Two Graves” on Netflix. In both projects I play their voices in the English Dubbing version.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being away from my family has been the hardest, they all live in Venezuela and we are very close. I FaceTime my mother almost every single day. Almost 4 months after I made the move to LA, my father unexpectedly passed away. It breaks my heart to not have been there, but I also remember how immensely happy it made him that I was here chasing my dreams. He really believed in my vision, and I know he is with me in every step I take in this career.
If I ever feel like I’m losing hope or motivation, or start to forget why I’m doing this; I just think of him and it all comes back. He is my strength when I don’t know how to keep going.
He was so supportive of my career, that’s rare. My mom is too. I got so incredibly lucky with my set of parents. I plan to make them both proud. My mom is my best friend, and my dad my guardian angel.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am so proud to say this year I have been an active commercial actor. You might have seen me on your TV this year for: AT&T, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, Mercury Insurance or Meta. I think one of the most important assets to have as an artist is to be versatile. This year I have done theater, film, commercials, VO, dancing… We have to be prepared for when opportunities arise!

Some of my favorite projects this year include:
Plays: Edith (Loft Ensemble)
In The Balance (Collaborative Artists Ensemble)

Film: Blue (USC Film)
Love The Game (Coming Soon)
POLY (Coming Soon)

Commercials: AT&T
Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood
Mercury Insurance
Rescue Agency
Meta

VO:
Two Graves (Netflix)
Malditos (HBO Max)

Dancing:
Gustavo’s Fiesta (Walt Disney Concert Hall)

What matters most to you? Why?
Getting to people. Not in regards to fame, but if one of my projects can make somebody feel something, or even just giggle because of a 15 second commercial, I think we are doing what we are supposed to be doing. It’s very important to me to be doing it from a place of love, collaborating with brands that you believe in, and telling stories.
So, in fewer words, the relationship with the audience. Whether it’s live theater or through a screen, people should feel like a part of it. The process isn’t complete without the viewer.
