Daily Inspiration: Meet Cøzybøy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cøzybøy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Cøzybøy started as a diary in 2017; I was going through one of the hardest break ups I’d ever experienced––kind of a star-crossed lovers story––and I fell into a deep depression. Motivation was hard to come by, quite a few and far between, and writing was just about the only thing I could bring myself to do. after filling pages and pages with stream of conscious thoughts, I decided to finally put it into songs. I took all the words and concepts from this little black book and wrote and produced 77 songs for some unnamed project. the most compelling track ended up being 67… I decided to release it. a low-key, honest love ballad with no hook, juxtaposed by an explicitly honest name. and to my surprise, it took off. I’ve been dropping songs and projects every month ever since.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My journey has been fraught with roadblocks––bouts with mental health, struggles with motivation, not to mention all the bs that comes with finding success in the music industry. I don’t think anyone’s path is ever smooth when it comes to the arts… all my trials and tribulations can be heard in the music. “modern dating and heartbreak” (the song); “been on my mind”; and “dark days in høllywøød” are good places to start.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Cøzybøy is a lofi r&b music artist from San Jose, CA. I tend to take indie, guitars, or dark synth textures and combine them with big drums and floating, reverbed melodies. I’m proud to have found this niche and carved out a piece of it for myself. I’ve released over 122 songs in the genre and I’m still going strong––”dial-up connections” my 5th studio album comes out in March 2023.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think I released my music at the right place right time. I saw a lane, I only knew of three other artists in my genre at the time. I took my lane and pushed hard. I think that was pretty lucky… as for bad luck? Well, that’s just everything that happened before that.
