Daily Inspiration: Meet Christopher Fuentes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Fuentes.

Hi Christopher, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Christopher Fuentes and I’m a: Multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, and a proud 1st generation latino from Los Angeles, California. Music has been my greatest passion ever since I was a teenager. It all started when I learned how to play “Smoke On The Water” by Deep Purple on an acoustic guitar as a joke when I was about 14 years old. Later in life, I learned how to play the bass, drums, guitar, piano and eventually taught myself how to sing. After all of this, I eventually learned how to write songs and how to give life and structure to music, and so inevitably, “The Mysterious Experience” was formed. The band consists of my best friends and my brothers: Jonathan Fuentes, Kevin Peña, Casey Rivera, Anthony Damas, and Fernando Montoya. Today, the band is seeing new heights daily in our career with our new single “L.A. Dreams”, gaining a lot of traction online in the indie and pop communities and we just couldn’t be more grateful for that.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As someone that has grown up in a very strict Latino conservative Christian household, it was very hard to express the band’s musical creativity. When I was 17 years old, I showed my parents a recording that I poured a lot of heart and passion into and they absolutely hated it because it didn’t align with Christian values. I remember then locking myself in my room and just starting to crying because of how unsupported I felt and how hurt I was, however, that same day was the day that I realized that situations like that are what differentiate a serious artist and people that play for fun. I at a young age learned that if the band was to take this beaten yet unknown path of a musical career, then we would have to be our own strongest supporters.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Mysterious Experience is an alternative/indie pop band based in Los Angeles, California that showcased modern danceable music with a hint of vintage soul and nostalgia. We write, record, mix and master all of our music in a recording studio that we made out of a spare garage in my home. We are best known for the music that we produce and the energetic live shows that we perform in. We are most proud of the amount of musical growth that we have all each gone through which is reflected in the music, along with the amount of love and support the community shows us with every show we play and every new musical release. I feel like our sound and songwriting structure is very unique in not only the Palmdale music scene but also in the indie music community. We are very influenced by bands such as: The Beatles, Mac Demarco, Tame Impala, Jimi Hendrix, The Weeknd, and The Cure, so we kind of just combine all of those influences together and make original music out of it. We love combining jazz piano chords, vocal harmonies, sweet synth lines, pop vocal melodies, wild and loud overdriven atmospheric guitar tones, busy rubbery bass lines, and loud huge punchy live drums to create music. All of this put together forms our very own unique sound in which we are proud to say is both pleasant and original.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We learned that a big part of the magic in music is the chemistry that a band shares. A lot of The Beatles recordings have a certain magic in them and I believe that it’s because of the chemistry that the band shared with each other, as if the tape picks up the vibe in the room along with the music. COVID-19 made it impossible for a long while for the band to get together and keep those vibes and frequencies from flourishing into recordings, but we learned to overcome this by remotely working together and sending each other musical ideas and thoughts.
