Today we’d like to introduce you to Brynn Smith.
Hi Brynn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Brynn Smith has worked in the hospitality industry for over fifteen plus years, during which time she developed a voracious passion for concocting libations. In 2011, at the height of the craft cocktail renaissance, that passion became a full-time career — and I’ve since been working with many different brands creating specialty cocktails and cocktail videos . Also curating and consulting on menus, managing and mixing at some of the coolest places in Los Angeles, currently at her award winning bar on the Sunset Strip at Bar Next Door. She has been featured in Esquire, LA Times, Forbes, Thrillist, Eater, Chilled Magazine, LA Magazine, Nylon, Bravo, Tasting Table, DuJour. @bartendingpretty
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a woman in any industry is a challenge but the bar industry comes with more challenges when it comes to navigating many personalities with alcohol that were taught to act or be in a bar scene for many years before me. I do see that landscape changing and continuing to change – so girl power and respect to those before me that helped pave the way!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mixology and cocktail creation. I am known for my cocktails and vibes I create and bars, restaurants and beyond.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My business partner Lawrence Longo currently has championed me to explore my craft and vision of Bar Next Door. Gives me full support to do so.
