Today we’d like to introduce you to Brit Lanier.
Hi Brit, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
One month after my 20th birthday, I went in for a routine Dermatology appointment to have a mole removed. Upon further testing, I was diagnosed with stage 3 Melanoma Skin Cancer. I underwent countless medical scans, surgeries, and intensive Chemotherapy, While in remission, I finished my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, and while I enjoyed the field my passion had build roots in skincare, holistic health, and the advocacy for skin protection. This lead me to complete my Aesthetician License and Holistic Health Coach Certification,
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a bumpy ride prior to receiving my Aesthetician License. Due to how extreme my Cancer Diagnosis became so quickly when they found it had spread internally, I experienced a lot of guilt and doubt in myself. It was as if the entire year of my life was no longer my own but in the hands of others; I had to put everything on hold. I blamed myself for much of this because of my carelessness of not protecting my skin in the sun, as well as the use of tanning beds in High School. Even after beating cancer, I spent many years in fear. And while I finished my schooling, I knew deep in my heart that I needed to be in a different field. I didn’t want my degree to go to “waste”, so there were many setbacks of trying to find a role I was best-fit in.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a part-time Facialist at Pash Skin, a virtual Aesthetician (Skinbybrit) for long-distance clients, as well as a certified Health Coach. I feel that my story of overcoming Skin Cancer, healing my body holistically (after negative effects of modern medicine), and working through my own battle of extreme cystic acne has set me apart. Through building my aesthetic portfolio, I also fell in love with content creation and product photography and have built a great social media community! It’s been a beautiful journey to get to a place in my career where I am able to help clients in-office and virtually, as well as working from home while being a stay-at-home mom!
