Daily Inspiration: Meet Bianca Beers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Beers.

Hi Bianca, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been creating ever since I was a kid — mum says when I was three, I was sitting in the driveway “drawing the wind” — I loved drawing, painting, crafting and building forts (lol)… Even back then I knew I wanted to live a life where I was making fun of things. As a kid, I wanted to work for Disney (I was and am obsessed) but as I got older, I drifted from that idea and eventually realized I wanted the space and freedom of being self-employed… So after years of avoidance, I finally took a course in design and started creating art as a side hustle on top of my full-time job ( I was working in retail at the time). It took about a year, but once it started picking up, I decided to make it my full-time thing. It’s been about five years of that now, working freelance as an artist, designer & content creator working from my at-home studio and loving it!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I feel like the road is never completely smooth right?! There are always ups and downs. For me, the problems I came across were to do with being taken advantage of and not properly accommodated for my time (which is common in these industries until you make a stand!!). I was booking big, international clients and assumed they would pay fairly, cos I had no fkn idea. It took a while for me to wake up and realize what was going on and find my worth. Nowadays the main struggle, which is common to any creatives, are either imposter syndrome (once a month baby!) or creative block. But that’s all part and parcel of the life, I try now to realize it’s an ebb and flow, as opposed to kicking myself when I’m in those states. I read a cool quote that said “whenever going through a challenging time, imagine life has pulled you back like an arrow about to be fired, stretching you to the deepest pain & discomfort before catapulting your ass into immense joy and expansion” — facts.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist, designer & content creator. The content creation happened organically through initially posting my art to social media, now my work is about 50/50 split between art and content, which actually I really enjoy. There are a few projects I’m proud of — I illustrated a friend’s book last year, that was a milestone and it turned out amazing. I also love whenever I get to paint murals, I’m actually in the middle of painting one for Adidas in-store which will be fab! In terms of what sets me apart from others, I’d have to say my attitude. I think people love to work with me because I’m a f*cking delight!! I’m firm but fair in my pricing and communication, but also understanding and aim to make everyone comfortable. We’re community beings so it’s important!

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has been the driving force. When I started art, I was working in a sneaker store, nothing glamorous. But I was an amazing salesperson, so head office knew all about me. They asked if I wanted to design art for their upcoming Valentine’s Day campaign, which I did! It got sent to all their suppliers (Nike, Adidas, Asics, etc.) and a couple of months later Nike engaged me for some work. Then Asics! Then it just snowballed from there. I say luck, but I think the important thing is to be your best self at all times, and blessings follow. Tends to be the way! These days I focus a lot on manifestation as well, which honestly is my life hack imo!!
